Hello all.
Newbie here who has his (wifes) first Alfa.

I'll try my best to describe the problem, then will explain what I have already done to try to resolve the issue

The engine has a idle misfire and a poor pick up. its worse when cold.
The engine managment light was on indicating a no. 4 misfire. I cleared the fault changed plugs, leads and No.4 coil pack. still no different. checked live data on the diagnostic tool and found fuel trim out and what i believe the down stream, (after cat) lambda showing consistent 99.92% reading when the other two were all over the place 0.200 > 0.900 and so on. I've changed all three lambda sesnors and also tried a new MAF sesnor. unplugging each coil pack in turn made a significant drop. after doing all this it runs a little better but whilst driving it keeps losing power, engine light flashes, then it will clear, drive fine again for a little, then power will go again, and so on.
All i'm left with next is to try new injectors.
But i must admit, being a land rover guy this is the first alfa I've ever worked on. so hoping someone would have come across this before and will know exactly what the issue is before i go throwing any more cash at it....
Thanks all:thumbs:

I'm assuming its a cf3 engine with 3 lambdas from what you say. The lambda reading for the two pre-cats look about right since they should be switching.

Two things though
a) did you use a new bosch MAF ?
b) did you use new bosch lambdas ?

Also try unplugging MAF - might not idle but see if it helps with power.
Also if you have had engine codes read could you post them ?

Cheers

Hi Thanks for the reply.

Fault codes:
P0300 - Random multiple misfire detected

P0303 No.3 cylinder misfire detected

P0301 No.1 cylinder misfire detected

P0100 - Air flow sesnor volume signal out of range. (though come up as we disconnected it whilst running.)

Along with P0303 the follwing text accompanied. 'low fuel in tank (below 1/8) low cylinder compression, faulty ignition, faulty egr system, faulty injector incorrect fuel pressure...'

Hi Dave and Rockhooper. It hadnt occured to me to be low cylinder compression as the problem is intermittent, buti will give that a try. dave. i have already tried that thanks. I drfove the car 5 miles yesterday and apart from a slight rough running for the first minute or so. it drove fine all the way into town.

Took it home from work yesterday. really struggled to pull out on a round abaout. filled up at a station down the road. left the petrol station, seemed fine for a while then misfire returned and stayed all the way home. Engine warning lights come back on so will re-read faults to see whats up now.
Bearing in mind that my engine has the 3 lambda probes. will an engine from a 147 fit. are all 1.6 T-spark engines the same? as now condidering a replacement lump
