The con-rod on my 155 has snapped (see Dead 155 topic). Is this common? She has only done 65k. Was she badly treated before I got the car?

Just sounds like bad luck due to a faulty component. Haven't heard of that happening before.

The twin cam engine, in all its various guises over the years has always been known for a very strong bottom end.

the con-rod would have been jammed solid by the broken valves and it had no where to go,,,,,so it broke, your very lucky if it hasnt smashed the block..........

btw this doesnt normaly happen but in some cases(like yours)it will.

I have heard that a failed con rod bearing can cause the con rod to break. A good argument for regular oil changes with quality oil!

Good luck
