Hi There,

I am quite new to Alfa Romeo. I just bought a 147. Some people have told me that the Alfas consume a lot of oil. That is quite extrange for me as all the cars I had before I did not have to even think about the oil until I had to servised them. The car even comes with a new pot of oil...
I would appreciate if you guys help me out with some questions:
Why do these cars consume oil like that?
Normally, how often should I check the oil level and how much oil should I put in every time?
Are there any recomendations before and after topping up the oil level?

Regards...

Generally, Alfa engines consume oil. Alfa even started putting a sticker on the windscreen to inform owners of this and to check the oil! The amount varies, some owners will tell you their car doesn't use any oil and thats great, but they are in the minority. Check it at least every week.

The petrols use a bit but the diesels are pretty much ok.

My diesel doesn't use a drop between services but I still check it every week out of good practice, just in case.
