Just been told it's failed it's MOT due to a Power Steering Leak.

They're currently looking into it and are going to ring me back with a price.

Realistically, what should I be looking at cost wise if it's the pump?

It's most likely a pipe leak - a common 147 fault. If you do a search on here you'll probably find a thread on the subject which will give you an idea of price.

Yeah I've just been quoted all in for £340 for a couple of pipes.

I'll have a look and see if that's reasonable!

Hmmm, sounds a bit steep to me. Annoyingly my MOT runs out tomorrow but they 'can't get the parts for a couple of days'

If you can fit them yourself you can get pirtek or similar to make them up it will be a lot cheaper! They are a pain to get at there are quite a few bit they need to remove to change them that could be where the cost is .

They are a bit of a pig since they run behind the engine but by no means impossible for someone willing to put a bit of spanner time in.

Given that you need the car it maybe worth dropping it into a specialist to do the job.
Its more awkward than difficult.

The steering will feel great afterwards though.
Its worth doing a fluid change just for the additional smooth feel.

they are around the £120 mark for the pipes with the new style mount if that is what is leaking. not difficult to fit but it helps if you have a thin arms and a stubby spanner (17mm?)
