Has anybody recently found a supplier of these items that knows the difference between a 147 GTA and all other forms of 147 and that a 156 GTA is also different?

Has anybody also then bought and fitted the parts with no issues?

Can anybody give me the definitive part number?

A lot of questions but I am in New Zealand and cant afford to be messed around buying parts from the other side of the world which then don't fit.

Thanks

As far as i can tell they are A gkn16 type which means the outers are specially made by GKN for alfa and only available from Alfa

I just bought complete shafts At 330.00 quid a shaft. the inners are easy to get a GKN 15 items and available in lots of places and the same as 2.5 units

Chris155 and Pud gave me some advice but i have had no luck finding outers even with a few local specialists

I have just found a well respected local guy with a 147 GTA he is wrecking that had done 70000km when it crashed. will sell me the outer CV joints for equivalent of 150 quid each.

Had usual argument regarding differences between models of Alfa being all the same. I guess I can only buy them and hope for the best unless by some miracle someone knows where to get new ones from before mine are completely knackered.

When I recently had my clutch replaced my mechanic took the complete shafts to a local drive shaft expert who cleaned and regreased them as he couldn't source parts but its only a stop gap measure.

I'd want the whole drive shaft for that money. Aside from which the inner and the shaft itself are worth FA as they're the same as various other models. It wouldn't be worth his time and the effort of splitting them.

:thumb up: Sorry, missed the New Zealand bit in your sig... DOH!!!!
Its Dino that have offered them to me. Mal also drives a 147 GTA.

I see Chris155 is from Cheshire. I am originally from Sale in Cheshire.

I am also communicating with an outfit in Australia who is offering new GSP joints for 147 3.2 for $68AUS,( approx.35 quid) on Ebay. Hoping they can send pictures and specs to confirm they are actually the right ones.

Small World...

The only difference between the GTA outers and the v6 is the diameter of the sp[lined shaft that goes into the hub. The OD of the splines are 29.5mm on a GTA shaft and 27.1mm on a V6.

The Australian supplier of GSP is asking me for the spline count. Does anyone know ? . I guess I should also tell him the OD as Chris155 states above of 29.5mm. Any other info I should give him as well?

The 3.0 166 shaft uses the same 29.1mm dia splines but the bit between the splines and the boot is longer, so you can't use the outer joint off a 166 shaft.

If it's any use to anyone, I've just had a drive shaft off the 156 refurbed for £160 by Drive Shaft UK
They arranged a courier to pick it up last Thursday and it arrived back this afternoon

I contacted them a few weeks ago and they offered to recondition my outer CV's 154 pounds for both plus VAT. They seemed to forget that I was in New Zealand.

I don't really fancy sending mine half way around the world and back, imagine if they got lost ! plus the time with car off the road.

When they recondition an outer CV Joint , does anyone know what they would do?

If parts are available to recondition I could get them done in NZ.

When I unpacked it this afternoon I slid the splined end into the outside of the hub as a test fit it looked and fitted fine......but having read your comments this evening, I thought I'd measure the OD of the splines....27.1mm! Rushed outside in the dark to measure the hub and the hub is just over 27mm! I'll double check in the morning light but looks like someone (or Alfa?) has fitted the smaller hubs/drive shafts to my GTA! Wish I'd checked it before I sent it off now!

Edit - Checked again this morning and I was wrong! The splines are 29.5mm OD.

So can someone confirm that both the 147 GTA and 156 GTA have an OD of 29.5mm?

Does anyone know the actual spline count as well please?
Yes. The 156 GTA / 147 GTA & 3.2 GT drive shafts are the same part. The nearside and the offside shafts are also interchangeable.
