147 Chassis Number Interpretation

I am getting somewhat puzzled trying to interpret the chassis numbers of my two year old (and now written off) 147 and the new 147 on order.

The old 147 had the following chassis number: ZAR93700005010157, while the new one has ZAR93700003129216. What is puzzling me is the fact that the two year old 147 had a chassis number bigger than the still on order 147.

On the other hand when it comes to the engine number it's the other way round, i.e.: 2432047 for the old one and 3239251 for the new one.

Any clue what all this means? will I be getting a car older than my old and now dead 147 ?

TwinSpark,

Have you written off your 2 years old car? eek! Is that a economical write off, or a material write off (read write off in accident)? eek!

IMHO, I think there's something wrong with the new car's WIN. All cars have a 17 digit frame number. For instance; KMHCH51FPVU030017. (Which is a 3 door Hyundai Accent 1.3) This should apply for all cars made the last 10 years or more, as these figures comply to some sort of international rule on chassis/frame numbers. Older cars have'nt got that many figures. If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about it, as it's probably some sort of internal number the dealer/factory uses when ordering the car. The extra figures might include details concerning colour/upholstery and equipment.

Good luck with your new car
May the old one rest in peace, or be sold in pieces to Banflu INC.
