Hi all, I have just bought a 147 2.0 selespeed. 02 plate with 60,000 miles on the clock. It has a full service history which shows that the cam belt has been changed and the engine rebuilt/reconditioned (due to cam belt snapping). It has also had bushes replaced on the suspension.

It all feels good and tight but just wanted to ask a few experts what I should look out for in terms of potential problem areas. I am going to take it for a service to get it checked over, any tips? Only one minor problem I have experienced is that it occasionaly seems to pop out of city mode into manual mode. That might even be me accidentally touching the gear changer on the steering wheel but I don't think so.

Also, any recommendations for a decent mechanic in the London area. I hear that Alfa dealers aren't always the best so wondering if anyone could point me towards a non dealership Alfa specialist.

thanks all.

Hi Straker
Welcome to AO

You may get a better response if you post in the 147/156/159 model lounge.

However, I would say that most on here will say ‘’check the oil level weekly and top up if necessary’’ The TS engine can use a substantial amount if oil.

Also keep an eye on the braided power steering hoses, they do corrode (between bulkhead and engine), you will notice a drip at first and it is a bit of a swine to get to if they need to be replaced.

Not sure about the Selespeed, no doubt someone can advise further.
Good luck

welcome.

selespeed... leave it in manual its more fun :) i suspect your accidently pressing the buttons on that one or you could have a dodgey city mode button but i have NEVER heard of that failing.

as mentioned above, check the oil regularly, like weekly or as i do, every 200 miles. they do use a lot of oil (up to 1 litre per 1000 miles is normal!).

the main things have already been adressed in the cambelt and the suspension.

happy motoring and make yourself at home on here, were a friendly (if not weird) bunch!
