Hi Guys,

Had my 147 for a few weeks now and has a few issues and just need some guidance in the right direction:

Firstly there seems to be a leak of some sort in the power steering tank, it makes a noise every so often and I have to top the ATF fluid up again. Is this usually the tank or the pipes? My tank has a screw on top with a plastic floating tube (going nowhere), I assume this tube is just to let air out?

Secondly, one of my windsceen wipers has just stopped working, thought at first it was frozen but sometimes turns (so not the motor) but then stops working, any ideas?

Thanks In Advance

The power steering pipes on 147s quite often leak. I think there may be a redesigned pipe available. I had a similar leak on my old 147 and replacement pipes sorted the problem. It's quite a fiddly job though as the pipes take quite a convoluted route around various other bits.

The wiper problem may just be worn splines where the arm meets the mechanism. Lift up the little 'knuckle' cover on the arms and try gently tightening the nut - this may well solve your problem.

Yes as Levi said check the splines, is a very common problem as the cars get older.

Power steering pipes are on the drivers side corner, you can see the spiral of the pipes from underneath, follow them along to where they are leaking. again is a common problem.

Thanks Levi..

Can an 'average' garage do the replacement pipes or should I go to an Alfa specialist?

Cheers
I'd probably take it to a specialist if possible. They will probably have done the job before on somebody elses car whereas another garage might be lacking in 'Alfa know how'.

Thanks All..

I think I have fixed my windscreen wiper, i tightened the bolt as suggested.

I have looked at the pipes from the power steering tank and the pipe last about 15-20cm from the tank and then goes nowhere...No wonder it is a problem.

Think I will give that lad a call as suggested.

Thanks
