Hi Guys, I am new to this forum and hope that you can help. I have just rebuilt the motor on my spider and all is ok however the carbs were a mess. I have rebuilt them but found a screw missing from the bottom of the float chamber! Not my fault. Anyone recommend someone somewhere to get one? I cannot finish the job without it and I want to enjoy the car while the sun is shining!

Cheers in anticipation.

I've sometime ago read that Solex C40 carbs are had to find parts and specialists for.
However, goggling Solex C40 ADDHE gave this link ADDHE Rebuilding
RM Carburettors also do parts business Parts for Sale
Otherwise try to locate (google) and contact all the Alfa Specialists (repair and restoration shops). There are many in UK, Germany and Holland.
Good hunt

Two more, both of which I've used for other things (Dellorto parts for my Alfetta, Solex parts for VW T2, etc) are:

Gower & Lee Carburettor and Spares Specialists
and
Southern Carburetters, suppliers of spares for Solex, Stromberg or Zenith branded carburetters

Both have been around forever, are run by helpful and knowledgeable people, and maybe worth a try.

I think Erik is right in saying that Solex C40 parts are not easy to find: Solex UK went bust nearly thirty years ago. My Alfetta originally had twin Solex 40s but even in the early 1990s I struggled to find all the parts I needed, so ended up fitting (the much more commonplace) Dellorto DHLA40s instead...

Hi again, by accident I fell over this ad on a Danish auto web site.
Text (Google translation)
Description
2 x 40 mm Solex carburetor + manifold that fits Vw golf 1 - 2 - 3 engine fits on 1.6 to 1.8 8V engine, maybe also golf 3 2.0 8V engine but not sure.

Solex Kaburatorne fit on many cars as long as you have the right manifold.
The mechanical fuel pump included.

Link to pictures 2 x 40 mm Solex Karburator - kr. 1.800 - Brugt Tuning

If you are interested I can help as go between.

Question: Solex ADDHE carbs. idle mix adjustment screws. Screwed out is Rich, Screwed in is LEAN, correct?

I'm having an issue with #1 Cyl. Will not idle smooth unless #1 screw is turned out 6+ turns, but this causes #1 spark plug to foul up. I had the Spider running like a Swiss Watch for about 5 minutes, then #1 started to misfire.

Correct - I have mine (same Solex) at about 1 to 1.5 set up using vacuum guages. 6 out suggests some issue with that carb or intake.
As it will use same float chamber as #2 try swapping around venturi and jets to see if problem goes to #2.

Thanks! i'll try that if i have no luck with further adjustments. Compression is 160 PSI on all four, and i soaked #1 CYL with oil before leaving for Cuba over 2 weeks ago. (thought might be seized ring, maybe)

Found the Problem ! There was a vacuum line hanging behind the distributor going to #1 stub manifold. I believe it was originally connected to the Intake plenum and was part of the Charcoal Canister setup, which has been since removed.

Plugged the line and the idle smoothed out ! I was able to turn the Idle Screw in to about 1 turn out !

If the set-up is the same as mine, that line is the vacuum advance on the distributor. It makes a difference at higher revs.
