Hi,

I'm considering buying a 1.8 widebody and am unsure as to whether the 16v version is belt driven or chain. Can anyone help me out?

What's just confused me more is the owner says it's an 8v and so is chain driven. OK, but the photo I have of the car shows the rear end with a 1.8 16v badge...

16v is belt, 8v is chain.

What year is the car? It's easy to stick a 16v badge on the boot of an 8v car.

Look at the engine, the top will say 16v, if it is.

Generally 16v cars are widebodys and 8v car narrow bodys. BUT, in 1996, they can be both fitted to a widebody.

Thanks, it's on fleabay so I haven't seen the car in the flesh yet.

It's an N reg (96?) so from what you've said it could just have a 16v badge stuck on the back...

Yup, or it could be a vendor who doesn't know :D If you post the link (hoping it contains engine shots) we'll tell you which engine/model it is :D
