Hi went to a 1/4 mile event last weekend at a local airfield... brilliant day out, only a relitively small setup but great turn out for cumbria.
It was ran by straighliners.co.uk.
They run them all over the country.. all sort of wierd stuff come out of the garages.. there was a corsa with 480bhp, :wow: a few novas running 3-400bhp... mk1 escort 600+bhp .. could go on needless to say they were mental!
then there was the brand new nissan gtr, a 911 turbo, skyline r34 running 600+bhp etc. etc..

Anyways i didnt run the alfa.. tempted as i was but didnt want to abuse it the way it looked like all the cars were..
Has anyone ran there gta and got any times???
Would have liked to compare it in real world against the focus rs's and vxrs that were there....
Im guessing with practise the gta should be able to get mid 14's??
anyone?? cheers

yeah theres another one at the start of august at kirkbride...
Are the ones at elvington "drive what you bring" days? or the series thing they doo... i have been to one of each and at the local airfield and the last one for the public was a belter one... alsorts of wacky stuff... and people turned up... where the series one was just a handful of extremely quick bikes but not much variation... entertaining but not really my bag..
I might pop over to one if you fancy it.. there websites not up to much like.... unless i am not navigating it properly..

ps that mental local corsa that was there got a terminal speed of 131mph (same as the race R1 that was there)..and its still FWD! dont think the alfa has much chance of that!!

Im not sure what sort of event the one at elvington is because, like you say, the websites a bit pants.

so, you reckon the 'drive what u bring' day is the better one to attend then?

either way, it sounds like a lot of fun. :D

14.6 seems to be the quoted figure, but I'm sure I read on here someone had managed a 13.9 with a standard 147 GTA.

thanks jim... 13.9 is dam quick probably one of the "better" gta's i guess,
found this site
Car Stats - Front Wheel Drive

quite interesting.. i think the stats are all worked out by some sort of formula, (bhp, kerb weight and type of drive) but they doo seem very close to the figures tested by the likes of evo.. so you can get a fairly accurate measurement.... i think

just had a good look at the stats and the figures for the last three fwd cars i have had (clio f1, mazda 3 MPS, gta) are pretty bang on to tested figures... but then it claims the 2.0 147 does a 100 in 25 secs...

yeah but the gta might have only had a terminal speed of 95 at 13.9?!
its confusing, i was looking at results coming in and it was confusing.. a beetle was doing high 13s and terminal speed was never more than 87, my cousin got 15.6 and terminal speed of 86?!?

thinking about it, i dont reckon 25secs for a 2.0 147 will be that far off.......i'll have a bit of a search to see if i can find any timed/quoted figures.

yeah, these kinds of comparisons have battered my head in, in the past too. it hurts tring to work it out at this time of night.
what kind of beetle was it? old/new? any idea of engine? maybe its quite light and makes time up at the start/off the line kind of thing

yep bacon, im good with figures and all that crap but it still puzzled me.. i mean the beetle was just an example there was loads of stuff confusing me.. the new gtr time was 11.99 @ 105?!? i can only pressume the speed is worked out from the finish line point to another measured distance sensor shortly after the finish line and he had slammed on the anchors right at the finish line?? - or the mph timer was tempremental.

the beetle was an old one.. not sure what the engine was.. very low tone and never seemed to sound like it was over 5k revs.. it sounded normally aspirated an was quick of the line, maybe it was just geared to get up to speed quick?

I found this, you should run your car and see what you get. I would love to get into track days, though my transaxle would'nt approve.:tut:

Nice one S. I see Jason has some new wheels and a front splitter thingy. I wonder if he's turned up the boost yet on his charger?
He was on here briefly a while ago till he got into an argument with someone and left, i think.
