I am in the middle of some major surgery on my GTV, replacing the rear sill and quarter panel sections. I am at the point of planning out future rust protection, and have followed the Alfa 916 body repair guide in using weld through etch primer on overlapping joints, and around butt weld areas...
Hi all,
Does anyone know what type of aluminum alloy was used to cast these heads? And if it is possible to weld this material?
I have a cylinder head that has had the water pump impeller come loose from its shaft. It looks like it was still being driven and unfortunately has worn down the...
Hello all,
For some reason I have been unable to locate the search bar on the forum pages - am I missing something?
Anywya, I wonder if anyone is able to suggest any mobile welders that may be able to assist with welding the rear-subframe of my Spider? The rear arm bush has failed and has...
This bloody check strap....
Is the broken bit part of the door or the strap?
Can I simply change the strap or is it part of the door and will need welding?
If it requires welding before a new strap is fitted, is there anyone on here in the West Midlands that can do the job for me?
Over the past few days I've been welding up the holes in my W210 Merc with the garage door closed so as not to disturb the neighbours.
Turns out I'd been welding galvanized steel over the holes, and because I'd used so much of it in a confined, unventilated area I gave myself metal fume fever...
I will be shortly be replacing the sills on my S2 Spider, after fitting is it best to joggle the edge of the replacement wing bottoms prior to puddle welding or a straight cut butt weld thanks.
was -156 floorpan extra plate question - now refurb progress
Hi Folks,
Following on from this thread (3 years ago!) the old car has been lying for the last 6 months with no MOT due to holes in the floorpan.
Ive stripped it all out and rust in the usual places (drain holes, driver side sill...
Hi all,
The Alfa has failed it's MOT and the work required (Welding) doesn't make sense to get done, when there's a dent in the rear offside door and she's done 100k miles / and we require a larger car. That being the case I am offering it up and I'm open to offers.
I don't have the time to...
Hi, whilst having a new front wishbone fitted today I asked a very reputable alfa specialist to quote on a rear offside floor pan welding as it has corroded. I trust the garage but the quote was for (around) £800 this included undersealing. Does this seem very expensive? I intend to keep this...
Well, after selling my first 166 3 years ago I received an email out of the blue from the chap I sold it to asking if I want to buy it back. The car seems to be in sorry state now and needs a few suspension bits for the MOT plus some welding. I'm not worried about the suspension but the welding...

Ordered a nice new master salve cylinder.
Had a read of a nice post on here about getting access to the old one and bleeding.
Sun out, tools ready
But after removing the air piping blocking access I noticed the original master cylinder is welded into a harness. Images added.
The harness did...
Jacked up my spider the other day and was gifted with some rusty paint flakes on the driveway  On closer inspection I discovered a lovely rust hole about the size of my thumb. Pics attached...
2001 red gtv lusso ( ruby to us ),
In for an mot thought just a few things, comes back with floor plate welding etc, removal of seats 5 hrs and welding 5 hrs? Ball joint and other bits, £1000 is this ok or is it a bit strong I know the metal needs to be seen but what's the going rate for...
Hi people,
As the title suggests,I have found rust:cry:just a small hole,by the towing eye in the boot,just needs a small plate . . . . .
My question is,do I need to disconnect the ecu's or is just disconnecting the battery safeguard enough?
Any advice gratefully received:)
I've bought a welder and joggler with punch and I'm practising before I let myself loose on the GTV.
When I'm trying a continuos weld, even joining up alternate tacks I'm getting quite a lot of distortion. Using the whole punch though and a row of spot welds it stays nice and neat.
So my...
