I had a prod under the car and some rusty bits came down.
It’ll need properly mending obviously but in the meantime I’m wondering if I should put something on it temporarily to ward off more damage.
Oh the tape didn’t hold in the wind!
Basically I’m wondering if something...
I'm currently cleaning up the under-floor of the Younger Mrs S's Cinquecento since it failed an MOT with some rusty chassis rails (now welded up). While I'm there (subframe out, fuel-tank out, brake lines out etc.) I decided it might be a good idea to repaint the whole underfloor and wheel...
My Spider is generally pretty clean underneath but has a little surface rust that I'd like to take care of.
What products would any of you recommend for a) treating surface rust to kill it and b) underseal products?
Nipped under my Giulietta this evening to measure the bore of the exhaust. Whist under there I noticed what appears to be a messy application of underseal on the chassis. Is this how they generally leave the factory?
Planning on getting this done to my 159 Sportwagon subframes - probably at Autolusso.
Before they do their Waxolyling thing, I want some Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 on it first. Anyone know how much would be needed to cover front and rear subframes?
It comes in 500ml 1ltr or 5ltr cans. Any thoughts...
i seem to be getting somewhat a expert at 147 rust
so, this will effect most 147's id say when they are about 7-8 years old and obviously older ones worse they may be! this also effects the gtv/spider/156 in the same way
so here is what it looks like on the underside...
I replaced the trailing arms on my '03 156 a couple of weeks ago and was surprised by the lack of underseal in places with some very faint rust spots starting to show.
Can anybody recommend a good zinc based primer and underseal please?
I put my 156 through its MOT yesterday after spending the last few months replacing things that were ageing, and breaking, all front wishbones, suspension from a GTA to replace the buggered novimat rears, and leaking fronts. New rear discs, callipers (both rears had seized), full exhaust...
Ive been looking and reading about GTs........Ive been after one for ages and will prob keep one for ages.
This underseal - or lack of, what reg plates GTs were they in? What should I be looking out for and how worried should I be. I want a mint one.
Also does anyone suffer from camber...
Stupidly I grounded my car on a curb and have scraped the underseal away from the seal in a fairly small area. (about 20cm scrape).
Can someone recommend what is best to use and where to get it from please?
Before winter sets in i wanted to give the underside of the car a bit of tlc and protection. There's no major issues i can see apart from squished jacking points on the sills from a previous owner and a bit of surface rust at the odd point and so far i have relied on squirts of...
I have noticed quite a few small underseal bubbles and some surface rust.
Mainly under the rear seat area and behind the exhaust heat shields.
Anyone else seen this and if so what underseal have you used.
Not that keen on waxoil
Hence the question
I went to look at a nice 51-plate 147 today. It had a snapped timing belt, but that's what I was looking for. ;)
However, I was put off by the state of the floor underneath. It was in pretty bad condition (156-stylee), lots of underseal had peeled off, and the driver's sill was perforated...
After given the all clear that the underside and any worry points are almost perfect, I want to protect it.
What products should I be using an what do I not want to be sealing!
I will be driving onto small ramps so not a professional setup unfortunatly!
I'm looking to underseal my car now before it's painted. Which underseal offers the best protection, the spray on version or brush on version with added waxoyl? There is no rust on the floorpan atm and I'm not bothered about having to remove any parts to use either version.
I'll be keeping my GTV for a long time as it was definaltey bought as a "future classic". Anyway with this in mind i'm trying to keep on top of things to limit big bills as time goes on.
So should i underseal the car against rust, any tips on what to use, waxoil?
Any other pros and cons
What's the general opinion on Painting the underside of old Cars?. Seems to be a trend towards using Two Pack primers, instead of the old fashioned underseal stuff.
Makes sence to me, because Underseal is so thick, if it starts to lift, moisture could get in and just sit rusting away, leaving no...
