  1. Mito exploding gearbox and tricky reverse gear on new box

    Alfa MiTo
My daughter who fell in love with the Mito, has had a rude awakening to Alfa ownership. Her 59 Mito has just experienced an exploding gearbox, which fortunately was covered by warrante from Perry's in Amersham. Never been over impressed with them from the day we bought the car, but that is...
  2. Regeneration becoming tricky.

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
I've noticed lately my regents are getting fewer and fewer, and it's becoming harder to complete one as everytime it starts I seem to end up doing 10mph on a piece of single carriageway. It only ever does a good one now around town at 30 - 40 mph, assuming this is an active regen. Anyhow ... My...
  3. 156 JTS : tricky MCSF

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Hi guys, I need some advice. Basically I went through the similar path of various MCSF problems related to mis-firing. Finally manage to eliminate the problems by replacing all 4 injectors 2 months ago. However, 2 days ago the MCSF flashes again with loss of power for 5s. After that, car...
  4. 2.4 jtd tricky problem

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Hi all Alfa fans and drivers! First of all my English is not so good but I hope it's understandable. I own my first Alfa for a year now but I still have one problem from the beginning I bought it (156 2.4 jtd). On heavy acceleration exactly at 2500 rpm the car losses some power, when plugged...
  5. Tricky question?

    Alfa 164 & 166
Right, time for some written charades (that doesn't work, does it?) I'm after a part - can anyone help me identify it (by name is good enough!) It's the fair-sized bit of rubber tubing between the MAF and the, er, engine? It has a split in it, which I've bodged in the short term, but I don't...
  6. tricky brera hose clips

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
i haven't come across these sort of hose clips before, having always worked on alfasuds with normal hose clips, i am finding these clips a little tricky to put back on ,i can't seem to nip them back up with pliers, or is it a special tool for the job? any way i have replaced the ones i have took...

  8. Tricky rattle.

    Alfa GTV & 916 Spider
Hi guys. I've been trying to work out the source of an annoying vibration / rattle. I know things like this are very hard to diagnose from a description but if I tell you when i hear it and what I've done so far you might have some suggestions of where I can look next. I'll list all the...

  10. A tricky one for CF1 TS

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
I have a CF1 2L TS with EGR, now my question is, I have a rather trick manifold for a non EGR TS engine and I wondered if I can fit it and put a blanking plate over the egr port next to cylinder 4 exhaust port and just disconnect the EGR valve? Thoughts please :)
  11. Tricky electrical problem

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Our 147 is normally fine, but had increasing electrical problems recently. Symptoms are now:- Getting various dashboard/mcu messages, including P0600 speed sensor, P0571 brake switch U12600 and U1706. The AA gave it a good look. Tried a new battery, but it made no difference. Put it into...
  12. cruise control tricky to operate

    Alfa 164 & 166
Can someone enlighten me pls regarding switching on of the cruise control . don't know if I'm stupid or there is some special procedure required to get it to operate. There seem to be no logic to how it works in my car. (2.4 jtd 175hp) when I start the engine with the cruise control switch...
  13. Are Cloverleaf/ti sideskirts tricky to repair?

    Alfa 145 & 146
"Damage to body colour airdam and aprons is tricky to repair." (Parkers 2003) Are they? They're only plastic, right? I only ask because one sideskirt on my ti is in need of a respray and perhaps a skim of filler. Whoever had the car before me must've kerbed it pretty badly, as the sideskirt...
  14. MGs - tricky handling?

    General Alfa Discussion
Last week, I came across my third smashed MG. Same story - car off the road backwards, into a tree/bush etc after a corner. So my question is this - are these cars a bit of a handful in the wet, more so than say an MR-2 or other mid-engined car? Any thoughts, comments (not relating to number...
