  1. 147 handling tip

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Get your wheel alignment checked, it’s not expensive and can make a huge difference. The 147 has concentric Adjusters on rear so all four wheels can be adjusted. If you notice odd tyre wear get em check ASAP.
  2. Vdc failure tip

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
So I’ve had vdc failure warning for a while. I took car in for wheel alignment today. All four were out by a long way which messes with all sorts of stuff including vdc. I didn’t know rears had concentric adjusters either. Guy told me drive it for 10 miles ignition off and on and it should...
  3. a quick headlight restoration tip, with stunning results

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
I detailed my 166 vver the weekend, a good wash, a claying, then a final deep wet shine wax. ( yes I know this is the 156 forum, but this allies to them as well, particularly facelift headlights. I wondered what would happen to the very poor milky headlights if I clayed them. Beautiful! the...

  6. Aftermarket exhaust tip

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone here has done something like the title says. Have been on eBay searching around as mine is still the factory one, ugly as hell. Just like the one on the pic. I'm afraid of buying one and not fitting, as the tail pipe does a small curve... Edit: I was...
  7. Bouncing locks and a good tip

    Alfa GTV & 916 Spider
Funny thing happened on the GTV the other day, when i locked the car with the remote i heard it lock then cycle to unlock again. Now I’ve had this before when the Bowden cable played up so i just locked the car with the key and thought nothing of it. By chance i had to go out at night and noticed...
  8. Tip for retro turbo people with slow rev down

    Tuning & Upgrades
Just a tip for people who have the problem with the engine slow to drop rev's its similar to having a air leak in the system, but normally happens to turbo cars that have long vacuum hoses going to the turbo gauge . Fit a item called a turbo vacuum restrictor that's used for turbo gauge flutter...
  9. Plastic surround on bumper that goes around Exhaust Tip??

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
Hi All, I am getting dual exhausts on my 159 (my existing backbox is rattling and I am using the excuse to not only replace that but to also get the dual setup that looks fantastic IMO). There is a plastic blank piece that will pop out however I will need the plastic surround that will match...
  10. Top Tip Of The Day

    Alfa Giulietta
Spent the day digging through the worst parts of my new purchase - seats were absolutely disgusting which needed serious elbow grease. One of the main tools in my car cleaning armory has always been a tin of Silvio Today I've used it to... 1. Remove the old sticky residue off the windscreen...
  11. Sooty exhaust tip on 170 MA TCT

    Alfa Giulietta
Had our Giulietta 170 MA TCT Speciale for about 6 Months and have noticed that the chrome exhaust tip gets a sooty deposit on it. I have to use Autosol to remove it, does this mean it is burning oil? I have topped up oil once but think that was because it was low when we first bought it, only...
  12. Stainless steel exhaust tip cleaning

    Car Detailing
The stainless steel exhaust tips on the Abarth were looking tired and heavily stained with carbon, spent an hour cleaning and polishing them up and quite pleased with the results. Pipes before i started. Soaked for 10 minutes with Bilt Hamber wheelcleaner and agitated with a paint brush and...
  13. Top tip for washer jet adjustment.

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
If you don't have a friend to make your jets work while you adjust the passenger side nozzle then you can thread a loop of seat belt through the steering wheel and hook it over the wiper stalk.
  14. Top tip for tensioning balance belt

    Alfa GTV & 916 Spider
I did the cam belt and tensioner a few months ago but was never happy with a kind of whining noise coming from the belts area. Some people told me these engines had a tendency to whine after a new belt so I left it for a while to see if it died down. But it didn't. At first I thought it...
  15. 147 Q2 backbox tip loose/rattling

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Hi guys the tip of the backbox on my q2 is loose and is causing a rather annoying sound that resonates through the low revs. Not sure if there is a way to weld it back on tight or if exhaust gum would fix it?
  16. Removing chrome exhaust tip

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Hello all, Just a quick one, has anyone removed the chrome exhaust tip on their GT? If so, how did you go about it and was it easy to re-fit? Mine is the single oval pipe rather than the double and I'm hoping to remove it so I can strip the paint from it... the previous owner decided this was...
  17. Alfa 159 TBI TI Squeak Tip

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
If when changing gear or going on and off the power you hear an annoying mouse like squeak then do this. In the engine bay to the left above the drivers side wheel is the airbox. Where it rests in its mount on the wheel arch is a rubber bush. Lubricate it with a grease or wax type lubricant as...
  18. Useful tip for none starting 156 TS

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Hi everyone. As some of you know my 156 has been driving me insane with breakdowns. Anyway after changing the the maf, crank sensor (both bosch), cambelt kit, water pump, cleaning injection and fuel pump relay, change rocker cover gasket as oil had leaked into spark plug wells, all fault codes...
  19. Top Tip. For some anyway...

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Ever since I've had my gt I've always hated the shiny steering wheel, my cars done 68k and the steering wheel was smooth and very shiny like it had done double that. I've been looking at wheels on ebay hoping to get a bargain on a replacement. Anyway, this weekend I've been painting the lower...
  20. Screenwash tip

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Here's something I never new - cheap screen wash causes the jets and filter on the pump to clog up (at least that's what a mechanic told me) so he said to empty the screen wash and put a kettle full of hot water through it. I also removed the jets and cleaned them with a pin and some thinners...
