  1. Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
Hi all, I'm new here but I've been lurking for a while. I've recently become the proud owner of a facelifted Alfa 166 fitted with the venerable 3.2 unit. I bought the car as a laugh as it has over 300 000 miles on it (on its second engine, but original 'box) and zero rust. One of the previous...
  2. Alfa MiTo
I've recently brought a MiTo 1.4 Turbo 2011 and I'm changing the cambelt. I've assumed the piston nearest the cambelt is piston 1. I checked to make sure the mark on the crankcase pulley is TDC where the locking tool is install but piston 1 shows it more towards BDC. Is it common for the...

Looking to buy the DTI and adaptor kit. Ordered one now thanks.
  4. The Classic Alfa Romeos
Anyone got a TDC marker spare for sale. Fixed or adjustable version. Think mine got lost years ago during a water pump service or something as its not even there. Usual suspects don't seem to sell them.
  5. Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
I know that this has been discussed many, many times but! I have now confused myself and talked myself into an issue that may not even exist? Basically.... Cambelt and balance belt change on a 2.0TS Alloy top engine, the advice is always "Two full revolutions of the crankcase". I removed the...

  7. The Classic Alfa Romeos
Need to take the head off the junior tomorrow as there's no compression on 4. There's no marking on my front pulley. There's a triangle marker behind the pulley, that no way lines up with the top, so lining anything up would be very hard. My cam lobes are both facing out on piston 1. The cam...

Have seen a "special tool" that attached to the dial gauge to get the engine at tdc. Is this the only way or will a standard dial gauge held in place by a mount do the job too?
  9. Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
i like to now when piston number 1 is at TDC on the v6 which is the other piston that is to:confused:

I didn't know if I should post this in the Trade section. Apologies if it should rather be posted there. Let's say, hypothetically, that I want to purchase the cam locking tools, TDC dial gauge and balancer belt tensioning tool for my Twin Spark motor. Would any of you guys be interested in...

Can the 2.4 be timed up 180 degrees `out`? So anyone know if tdc is when #1 piston (nearest the cambelt) is at the top or is it another piston? Cheers

Am a bit bemused as i am in the middle of a cambelt change and have used a TDI guage to get TDI and checked with the marks on the crank and they all correspond. However, having now opened the engine up and attempted to put the camlocks on i find that the camshaft lobes on both camshafts do not...

I ve just brought myself a tdc tool from Alfa workshop to find tdc. I know it sounds like a silly question but how do you find tdc using the tool. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Does anyone know the resistance of these two sensors? For a CF2 engine 2 pin (both) I am getting 1.120kohm on Crankshaft TDC sensor (brown plug) And 2.2Mohm on my white plug knock sensor. Thank you

I changed the cambelt ok but having put it all back together, when i came to start the car i found that the engine was locked and wouldn't turn over. Thinking that this might be a starter issue I rocked it back and forth to try to release it but to no avail. Concerned that the engine might be...

From what I gather the balance shaft belt markings have to line up with TDC once the belt is put on. Doesn't that means those markings can also be used to find TDC at the start before locking the cams? What's the need for a guage? In relation to twin spark 2.0
  18. Alfa GTA
Replaced cambelt, decided to turn the engine a couple times today to get the belt to sit central and the tensioner was fluctuating quite a bit (is this normal?), so I decided to slacken the bolts and tighten it a little further but screwdriver slipped and all went ping  Some of the cams...

I have finally got around to looking at the timing belt today on our 1.6 TS (engine 321.04). I fitted the cam locks and noticed the TDC marks on the crankshaft pulley and the plastic cover don't quite line up. Are the TDC marks accurate? If they are I have a stretched belt, which at 73k is no...

Am set up with the dial gauge to find tdc, so went to hand turn the crank. Problem is, there's a 19mm bolt, but none of my (and have have various) 19mm sockets will fit into the recess to go on the bolt - these aren't particularly thick walled sockets either. Have tried popping the bolts for...
