Hi all, I'm trying to replace the bushes in the gear selector on the other half's 147 as reverse and third are very stiff occasionally, and the gear stick is sloppy. I'm following the Alfa Workshop guide here: https://www.alfaworkshop.co.uk/Alfa_147_GT_156_Gear_selector_plate_removal.shtml But...

Hi everyone, I'm having the common problem of the gear stick not returning to neutral, i've looked on the forum and people have said its the"top hats" / grommets that are in both ends of the selector housing. I just have a question about the top hats, are they supposed to be a tight fit into the...

Am I the first person to suffer this? Had a great day out in Coventry Cathedral, not religious but a supporter of the Myton Hospice Butterfly event, dinner at the Green man in Kenilworth recommend that place to anyone, and then, onto the relevant part, off home onto the A46, got into 3rd gear...

Anyone know where to get this? it clics on to the shifter on gearbox. It has a lot of play in it (3 mm)and i partly fixed it by sticking som 1mm rubber in the front and back and glue the plastic housing back together. But really want a new one. But gear change feels more precise with the mod.

Hi, On my Brera (S) 2.2, I've found that switching from 1st to 2nd is becoming increasingly difficult to engage. It's not that it slips out, it simply needs a fair amount of ooomph to shift the gear stick into position. Not such an issue for other gears although it's never been a particularly...

Hi All, My local non alfa garage can only source these at just short of £300 smackers! I'm trying to find the part number, or a good place to get them cheaper (even non oe if decent), I found some on ebay but I can't check if it is compatible unless i use my chassis number and the car isn't...

Hi, (Car is a 2.2 JTS, Model 159, age 2006) My clutch slave cylinder died a week before Christmas, and to cut a long story short, my mechanic was unprofessional and incompetent and in a fit of anger took the car back home and decided to work on it at home. Drive shafts out, Sub frame out...

Good morning Gents Ive been having a few sloppy gearbox issues with my 2008 147. I have eventually taken the car into my local Alfa specialist who have advised that I need a new "selector Box" and want £270 to fit one. I've been having a look about to price one up but can only find reference...

Has anyone found a decent replacement for the Gear selector knob on the Q-tronic lever. Mine has the button popping out regularly (common i believe) but also the chromed plastic is wearing and getting sharp bits Am not looking for anything too outlandish just something stylish in black leather...

Hi All Was just looking under my 2004 156 1.6 tonight as it has a very slow leak in the oil sump gasket that I intend to fix soon but also noticed that over the other side of the engine under the left side (off side) of the clutch housing is damp and upon inspection it seems to be up at the...

Hi, our 159 2.4jtdm is living up to the alfa stereotype at the moment. New battery last month, steering rack bolts needed replacing two weeks ago, then tyres last week and now the gearbox has gone funny with MOT due tomorrow..... I've done my research and know we have the "stronger" F40 box as...
  12. Alfa GTV & 916 Spider
Evening all... My GTV has that gear selection issue - which I am told is down to a couple of bushes on the gearbox. I did read through some of the posts on here relating to this problem and one of the posts have the part numbers for the bushes. Now I want to order them can I find that post? Not...

Help!!! After successfully freeing up the bushes on the selector plate on my recently purchased 147 JTD, when I have put the selector plate back with the innards as I though they were when it came out I can't select any gears or remove the selector plate from the gearbox. I know wish I had...

hey all, Could someone confirm this is the right plate for my car? My mechanic was going to change it for me, but he said is not the same? I got the 5 speed box. https://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=store&op=details&ProdId=4136&sku=60404 thanks Ming

Whilst changing the gear change "top hat" bushes on my 147 following the excellent step by step advice on this site, I popped the selector back into its housing but now if only turns a little bit and cannot be pulled straight back out which is could when I removed it. I can bolt the selector...

Spent the day putting in a "new" Selespeed box today , it's been reconditioned recently. I tested the selector plunger and it selected all the gears before installing. Had trouble getting the box in place, first time at it. *I find now as i try to install the actuator the selector shaft won't...

Perhaps someone can help on this one? Under the leather gear lever shroud, to the left side of the base of the stick, is a spring loaded mechanism which corresponds with a catch on the stick itself. I connected it up but whilst connected the stick cannot be moved?' Does anyone know what...
  19. Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Hi all, hope someone will be able to help me with this. After the engine blew up 18 months ago I've finally got my 156 jtd working again, and I thought I'd get the sticky gearbox issue sorted before MoT (tomorrow, haha!!) as the stick wasn't returning to neutral (seems quite a common problem so...

A bit of an odd one, yesterday driving home and the clutch peddle just went to the floor, bizarrely at the same time the gear selector has also gone stiff, the car seems to be in neutral but there is very little movement on the leaver both front to back and left to right, the AA recovery guy...
