Hi, had the car 6 weeks or so and on third issue, this Alfa love hate relationship has started:cry: Anyway i was caught in a long traffic jam yesterday (60 minutes or so ) slowly moving a cars length every couple of minutes when a screeching noise started from what i thought was a belt. the...

I just wondered if someone could offer some advice please, I'm changing the timing belt on my Alfa 147 and am stuck at the stage of getting thr crankshaft pulley off. The workshop manual says to remove the four bolts, and then the outer crankshaft pulley will pull off over the large bolt in the...

yep, you read it right. i have bought a lightweight, smaller diameter aux crank pulley for my 156. it feels like the claimed 50% weight reduction, and has a small reduction in diameter, but the response of the engine is so much better now. the selespeed feels like it shifts quicker too, but this...

as title, how does the crank pulley come off on the 2.0 ts engine of the 156? 4 torx/ts-star bolts, but is there a bolt in the middle too? whats the order of removal/refitting?

Hey Guys, Im trying to do this formula to calculate speed of S/C impellar speed (DxA) * C/B = X . And C is my crank pulley size, but its bloody hard to get under or over/down the side to measure it. ie . (9.49scgearratio x 7200rpm) * ( ??? / 85mm )

sorry, i was concentrating on the abs/ecu problem earlier and forgot to mention the alternator belt as well. the reason given by my mechanic for the belt squealing is that the bottom crankshaft pulley is loose. he said it's encased in a gel which has gone off and that tensioning the belt will do...

Firstly, is it a left hand thread? Secondly where would you buy a 41mm socket from? Halfords do not stock one

At last we have the engine back from the engineering shop, and if it goes as well as it looks we will be beating some more elises this year, anyway I digress. We have been advised to change the tensioner pulleys, so ordered just the pulleys from Justsuds (quick service £15 each plus postage) as...

now the proud ovner of a '72 GTV, but... it's got issues it got through a whole gallon of oil during the 70 mile drive to my house, with most of it thrown around the engine compartment. Some oil is coming out of the exhaust pipe, either as blue smoke, or droplets. Whilst it was difficult to...
  12. The Classic Alfa Romeos
howdy y'all i've been after a 105 coupe for a while now and i went ahead and bought one yesterday - a '72 GTV. Bodywork and interior-wise it's really nice but there are a number of issues to deal with. it got through a whole gallon of oil during the 70 mile drive to my house, with most of it...

I'm contemplating on replacing the stock crank pulley with a lighter and 10% smaller in diameter aftermarket pulley. The new pulley weighs in roughly half of the original pulley. The workshop showed me a dyno chart on a 2.0 Twinspark engine and there is about 6-7 HP increase across the range...

Anyone heard of the lightwieght underdrive crank pulleys ? Are they any good? any suggestions?

On the night i picked up my 16v. the main pulley nut fell off. yay:rolleyes: I was wondering why ther was no power steering, and the fan wouldn't start. I only noticed the wobbly pulley by accident. And now i can't find a replacement. So my new baby is sitting in the back yard and hasn't even...

Has anybody removed the crankshaft toothed timing pulley bolt from a 1.6 twinspark. The Alfa Info disk has the bolt as left hand thread and 280ft lbs torque. I have had a 500ft lbs impact gun on it (no flywheel locking tool) and it doesnt want to budge. Does the flywheel locking tool make...

Hello all.My mechanic who is doing a cam belt change on my '99 156 v6 has just phoned to advise me to change the crank pulley as the rubber damping material in the pulley has perished and this has (most likely) caused some slight rubbing on the engine block.Has anyone come across this before? I...

Hi, Done the timing belt change at the weekend, and the only doubt in my mind is the position of the forward balancing belt pulley mark, after I tensioned the belt, the slack was taken up on the this front pulley, thus moving it forward one notch, forward of the rear pulley mark. The car is...
