Incase anyones interested.
I like to tinker with motors so picked up a non running VW for the pricely sum of £400, everything else was in order, engine needed sorted!!

Some bits to throw it all...
I should have posted this ages ago but being naturally lazy I didn't get round to it :)
Anyway to fill in a bit of background, I'd just returned from England late on the Friday night and decided to head to the GTi Owners Club show at Castlewellan the very next morning where our...
Its just occurred to me that I have never actually driven one of my favourite cars of all time the VW Corrado and wondered how different can it really can be anyway compared to a Golf Gti. I mean it was after all based on a Mk II Golf so its really only a re-bodied Golf - No? :confused...
I am a car nut and have owned and driven many performance cars. At one time I was a big fan of japanese cars, especially honda vtecs and nissan rwd turbos. Then I drove a 1989 Golf GTi 16v and had to have one as despite being old and boxy and fwd and underpowered it was the most fun car I had...
putting this poll up for a friend of mine. based on some of the rough figures below, which one is the best to own?
insurance group 9
Insurance group 11
tried to persuade 147 already but he narrows his choice down to these 2.
I'm currently considering a 156GTA or a new Golf GTi (5 door)! The thing that puts me off the Golf is; 1. it is not being lauched till Jan and therefore I won't have the opportunity to test drive it; 2. it may lack character compared to what I'm used to with Alfa. However I've also read a couple...
OK, I now own a somewhat non-functional 309 GTi!
It's the 1.9l 8v version, and before being taken off the road, it was in good working order, apart from a clutch failure.
It still runs 4-star leaded petrol, and I'm looking to run 5-star in it.
Some people have said that it will run fine on...
Yes i know its not a 155 :p
But have recently aquired a
Mk2 Golf Gti as a kind of second
car/project car and the ride
is very rough.
lots of clunking and knocking
from front end, and when steering
at slow speeds a loud snapping
Haven't had much time underneath
Going home from work I cam across a black G reg one. It had been lowered, had little euro look wheels and a peformance exhaust. Had a play with it on the by-pass and it pi55ed all over my 2.0 16 valver! :( It ran away and hid. eek! I know my alfa is faster than standard and I reckon it...
Hi fellow AO ers.
Sad, but I had to get rid of my 147. :( Just toooo many probs.
Have bought a Civic Type R, pleanty of grunt, :D but can't beat the bella on looks!
Hopefully, this car will prove more reliable though.
Will keep in touch with the forum though....
A friend of mine recently sold his 156. Shame I know, but he wanted something more powerful then the 1.6 engine (as do I).
He now has a budget of 30,000 Euro, and insists on buying new. He would like a hot hatch but is not willing to go Alfa again as 30,000 will get you only the basic 2litre...
I am interested in purchasing either the Alfa 147 or the VW Golf GTi. I have read various reviews about the 147, and it sounds like a great car. I have also test driven the 5-door 2.0L selespeed model and it was great.
What I am worried about is the various problems that people have...
