I'm trying to work out if there is still something wrong with my gear linkage, I've replaced the top hats, and lubed the linkages in the engine bay, changed the box oil but still not that happy with the change, problem is I've come from a the light switch change of a Mk4 golf so am wondering if...

I've got a year 2000 V6 Spider with a 6 speed gearbox. When I bought the car, the the gear change was a bit imprecise, specifically changing up from 4th into 5th. A bit of regular use and some WD40 on the area where the cable locates on the gearbox has improved it no end, although I think it...
  3. Alfa 164 & 166
My F/L TS has always had a heavy clutch with quite a low bite point, and quite a notchy gearchange. I had sprayed the gear linkage and clutch arm with WD40 and copper grease a few months ago which gave a small temporary improvement. I decided to have another go at the weekend without...

I'm curious. My Tbi loves to be revved! When I change gear, it goes in smoothly enough, I get back on the power but there is delay in the power delivery again. I know what turbo lag is and don't think it's that. I suspect that the delay after the gear change is some sort of protective feature of...

Hi all, I have been having somewhat of a nuisance to get into the 2nd gear. On really cold days (-24 degrees C, north of Sweden you know) I cant engage any gears until the car warms up, but the second gear seems to be a hassle always, despite temperature. At the same time I have felt something...
  6. Alfa 164 & 166
Hi all, Car has sort of symptoms presented by the other models (147 etc) where the gear linkage can be awkward, and doesn't sit nicely in neutral (one side or the other, not central between 3 and 4). Stripping, cleaning and re-greasing would help, I assume, but whilst it's apart are there any...

Just got back to my GT after the winter, and the transmission feels very notchy and grainy. There also seems to be some difficulty selecting second when cold. Any ideas?

Hi Everyone Where do I start.... I have posted a few times now about various points to do wit my gearbox... But - it is still like changing gear through a bucket load of treacle! I have spent out over £1100 on a gearbox refurb, new bearings all through. New Diff bearings New Clutch and dmf I...

Hi Guys, just bought a 147 and it has a light rattle only when you change gears, very faint. Short rattle for an instant, metalic , on up changes . *When you are driving you never hear it no matter what you do. Anyone had this ? Any ideas Otherwise the transmission works fine .

Just bought a159. Really happy with it. Loads of history with the car, nothing sinister lurking. Myself and my wife have noticed that when changing from 6th down to 5th, it is easy to go into 3rd. The lever needs to be guided into 5th quite firmly. Is this normal?

Any ideas? Has anyone had this done?

Hi, Glad to say I'm now the proud owner of a Q2. Got a few niggles to sort though. I'm finding the gearchange tricky because the gear lever does'nt centre. It does'nt seem overly stiff, just does'nt centre. Having read a few guides on here do they apply to all 147 models about the linkage under...

Hi Guys After some advice here about a very dodgy gearchange on my 2.0 TS 147. About a year ago I had the usual 147 stiff gearchange problem which was successfully cured by replacing the selector shaft bushes (as described in numerous posts on this forum). The only remaining problem after the...

Hello All, Having been forced to sell my former 156, I have today bought a bright red (yes the one that fades) V6 156. Its done 87k, last owner some 7 years, and garaged for a number of years, only doing nominal mileage. Most things about the car are good, but I notice a marked difference...

Is the gear change mechanism the same for 6-speed V6 & TS GTVs? http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-gtv-and-916-spider/370159-the-gtv-and-916-spider-for-sale-wanted-thread-2.html#post5287965 Thanks.

Was fortunate to be given an mot failed 156 2.5 recently, - much welding later the car now has an mot cert and the car is great with the exeption of the gearchange, which is very stiff and hard work. I've no experience with 156's, is this common, can anyone point me in the right direction to...

Can anyone tell me how I can speed up the gearchange on my 147 Selespeed please, it seems to be a little slow, I also have some juddering/ jumping when cold, I am lead to believe the clutch and actuators were renewed in 2008, the car is currently on 77k, I do have a lead for fiatecuscan from...
  19. Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Have noticed that the gear change on my newly bought 156 is difficult to engage when cold and from a standstill. The clutch itself seems to have plenty of bite and pedal travel seems normal (i.e. not too high or low). I'm thinking along the lines of a faulty slave cylinder. Has anyone come...

I was wondering if its possible to quicken the gear change speed on my 156 selespeed, i know that fitting a lighter flywheel might help, but can it be done by reprogramming the gearbox ecu? Or should i just get a manual 156!!?? p.s i'm using this car for trackdaze
