156 won't start (catch) Hi Chaps, My bird's got a 156 1.8 twinspark, and every now and again, it won't start. It turns over ok, but just won't start (catch). To get it to start, you have to keep at it, and eventually it starts to fire (catch), then gradually gets quicker and quicker until it...

I can't open my bonnet  I can hear a clicking when the lever is pulled from inside the car when I had my ear by the grille. But the red levers inside and outside the car are all loose and floppy rather then nice and taught as usual, and I can move the bonnet up and down by a few mm to. Any...

MAYBE SOME ON HERE ALREADY KNOW OF THIS BUT AS A SAFETY ISSUE I'LL POINT IT OUT ANYWAY. WHEN I HAD MY 156 RE-MAPPED, IT WAS POINTED OUT THAT THERE IS A KNONW ISSUE WITH THE BONNET CATCH AND IT CAN POTENTIALLY NOT CLOSE PROPERLY MEANING IT CAN POP OPEN WHILST DRIVING. I WAS ADVISED TO JET WASH...

Whilst cleaning my throttle body the other day i noticed that the main induction pipe (maf to throttle) was quite heavily stained with oil vapour from the cam cover breather. This can't be good for the MAF and is probably contributing to the speed in which the throttle body dirties. Would it...

Hello there, The door latch on my spider keeps sticking meaning the door half opens then jams and can only be opened from the outside. Tried spraying with WD40 but still happens. Anyone else experienced this and know of any easy fix. I'm trying to avoid removing the door cards. Cheers Matt

I almost lost my life over Christmas when my bonnet catch failed - my car has been written off. Its a 1998 2.0 T Spark. I understand Alfa recalled some 156 because of this problem in 2005. I contacted Alfa and they say its my fault and my car isn't subject to a recall, even though it has the...

I was driving down a dual carriageway one morning just before christmas(it was quiet luckily) at between 70/80 miles an hour, when suddenly the bonnet flew up smashing the windscreen and bending the roof and windscreen pillars. The bonnet stayed for a couple of seconds before ripping off the car...

hi all, went to shut the bonnet today and it wont close properly,it seems to just stay in the safety catch, worried it might fly open when driving it.is this a common problem ?

When i open the door, the door catch is making a grinding noise on both the clicks. Any ideas on why it is making these noises and how simple to fix. I guess the door panel has to come off, and would a 146 dor catch be the same.

The handle has fallen off the blovebox catch. The screw holding it on must have vibrated loose and fallen inside the housing. Does anyone know how to get at it? there is no obvious way of dismantling it (as with all these things, easy when you know how).

Just a reminder to everyone to lubricate their bonnet catches! After laughing at Clio bonnets popping open on Watchdog this week, I found mine was seized in the unlocked position  Go and check yours now! Cheers, Simon_S

Water is trickling into the drivers footwell from the bonnet opening catch. Is this a known problem?
  16. Alfa 164 & 166
..struck my 166 the other day. As has been mentioned before on here, the latch for the bonnet on the 166 is prone to seizing. It happened on my 166 the other day, so I popped along to Peak Alfa today. Met the legendary Roger for the first time - it happens that he has a 166 too - a nice metallic...
  17. General Alfa Discussion
hi alfisti alfa have finally recognised the need for a recall on the failing bonnet catch (i'm assuming you've seen the pics, heard the stories???? it's limited to 02> apparently, but give your local dealer a call anyway?
  18. Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Just to let you know that all 147s and 156s in the UK have been the subject of an official recall to inspect & lubricate the bonnet catch. I have heard of bonnet catches failing and bonnets being blown open whilst driving, so I presume that this is an official response to this. If you're UK...

Hi All, The driver's door catch release on my '95 model 155 (2.0 l) has seized. Central locking operates normally from the inside door release and key operates correctly in lock. I have released the door panel as far as it will go, and can see that the cable from the inside door release is...
