  1. Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Hi guys just been to look at an'08 GT but on the test drive i noticed the bite point was pretty high, mentioned it to the dealer and he said it had had a new clutch 5000 miles ago. Now i haven't had a hydraulic clutch for many years so wasn't sure if this was normal on these GT's or whether the...

So after I replaced the MAF which made the Selespeed work so much better I decided to go into MES, reset all learned values and do an EOL calibration, hoping it would get rid of the remaining tiny judders and make it silky smooth. Maybe I shouldn't have tampered with it and just be happy...

  4. Alfa Giulietta
Most of you may be familiar with my tale but just to recap. Bought car at 33'500 miles. Car would not go in 1st or 2nd while stationery. All other gearchanges where fine and slick right up through the box. Apart from 1st and 2nd, i couldn't fault the gearbox. Clutch, Flywheel and 1st+2nd...

Any advice/opinions on the following would be great and help my plan of action! Driving home yesterday, and the clutch pedal suddenly felt soft and slow on the way back up. Found it hard to change gear, so left it in 3rd and got home, as it was only about a mile away. Fast forward to this...

As you might expect, my 147 has developed the above symptom this morning. I don't know what it is but it seems like the clutch. Anyone have any ideas please???
  8. Alfa GTV & 916 Spider
So in August last year I had my gearbox swapped for a 6 speed, and had the 5 speed slave put on the 6 speed due to differences in volume cited by the mechanic. Also had a new GTA clutch fitted at the time. I drove the car and the clutch bite point felt the same, not too high, not too low...

Car is a 1.6TS with 146,000 miles. I've had the car since 56,000 miles and have changed none of the clutch parts, so it's safe to assume that all are still original. When the engine is cold and clutch pedal pressed down it sounds like a bearing is squealing. This noise goes after a few miles...

  12. Introduce Yourself
Hi people, I've just bought a '55 plate Alfa GT JTD, irredescant blue, leather seats, standard 16" alloys. Love it already! This is not my first Alfa, I had a 'S' plate 156 T-Spark in 2006-7, but that was showing it's age in repairs.. I said Never Again to Alfa, but this one was my (lady)...

My poor 156 is heading for the big scrayard in the sky. :( Seemingly the cam belt had slipped a few notches, resulting in the car have multiple bent valve's. Gonna cost to much to fix. Would like to take the oppertunity to thank everyone for all the help they have given in the past. You...
  14. Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Recently replaced my discs and pads on the 147. Now since replacing these although the brakes are still decent i have lost the 'bite' from the brakes when first depressing the pedal. I have taken the car out on 2 separate occasions and braked hard from speeds as fast as 70mph in order to aid the...
  15. Introduce Yourself
Hi to all AO, just bought my first Alfa a 1990 164 3.0 V6. My sons first car was a sud ti followed by 2 more then the 164 and now a 33. i've had the pleasure of driving all of them so when the 164 was for sale - well I had to have it, what a remarkable car for so little money long may it live.
  16. Alfa 164 & 166
Some of you may remember reading a previous thread about my 166's recent epic MoT fail. Despite many people telling me the car was a bin-job, I decided to ignore all that and have it patched up for a second stab at the MoT test. With fingers firmly crossed, I awaited the call from Auto Lusso...
  17. Alfa GTV & 916 Spider
Not sure that it's a sign of anything wrong, but my clutch bit point seems quite high - very near the top of the pedal's range of travel. I'm not seeing any kind of clutch slip (even on the track day, and I was seriously caning it) - but I wanted to see if it's a sign of something expensive on...

Hello Everyone, Just joined this website as i found it very helpful to understand my 156. abit about my 156: 2001 - Y plate 1.8TS Veloce with redline trim. the downfall is No FSH. however it had previous MOT and current MOT til November 2009 with 102,000 Miles on the clock. Hustled the...
  19. General Alfa Discussion
I recently test drove an Alfa 156 v6 and was amazed by how high the clutch bite point was. I did a search and found that this is normal on 156s. Why is that? I always thought that a low bite point meant faster gear changes. Are there any advantages to having a clutch with a high bite point?
  20. Alfa 147, 156 & GT
I've just bought a '98 156 V6, the clutch bites around 3/4 of the way up its travel. Its not slipping but the bite point doesn't feel right. I've read a high bite point is a sign of wear - is this what I'm looking at or is 3/4 travel normal? Cheers, Rob
