Hi All, Hopefully a nice easy one for you chaps. I'm not sure if my Sprint has any anti-freeze installed and with the sudden burst of cold weather it's got me a little worried. What type (and maybe a recommended make) of anti-freeze is best for the Boxer engines please? I have some Carplan...

I am putting in a new thermostat this weekend and guess it's a good time to change the coolant which is blue. I know I probably should put in the red or blue premixed Fiat stuff but will I be risking anything untoward by using a good quality modern antifreeze, mixing 50% water and 50%...

I'm told my Samco hoses are arriving today, and I'm also going to stick a new radiator on the car just for the sake of it. Looking at the shop manual, a mix of 4L anti-freeze to 8L of water is recommended, but I've always thought 50/50 was the way to go. What are you guys using?

  5. Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
Coolant and antifreeze is a topic we are asked about on a regular basis, and often causes confusion; types, colours, service life etc. Perhaps the most frequent cause of confusion is what the difference between anti-freeze or coolant is. Basically, they’re the same product (although the term...

Should I be using the pink or the blue? I think I read somewhere that the two don't mix, and can cause problems.. Ta..!

Hi, As we got into winter this year, I topped up the antifreeze level. Since then, the engine has run quite cold, only getting up to 90 degrees when I'm sat in traffic. I had initilly put this down to the freezing conditions we've all sufferred, but the problem continues. I don't think its the...

I've been reading an interesting article on the change to organic antifreeze and its use in older cars, see this thread: Antifreeze The basis is that the newer, longlasting red antifreeze can cause all sorts of leaks in cars that were not designed for it. Lots of us are having serious...

Hi, I have repaired that my Alfa 156 sw 16V jtd, loses about 100ml of antifreeze of 3000mil in 3mil km, that is, is below of the maximum level, pparently! I do not know if arriving at the level min it stabilizes. However I verify, that, when I bind shaufage the temperature goes down :confused...

Hi, just fitted clutch assembly and coolant with antifreeze has just run out and down over the new clutch after just fitting it to the flywheel. Will it be ok to wipe worst off and continue without removing it again or is it likely to do any damage to the friction plate if its on that...

  17. Alfa 159, Brera & Spider
Decided to top up the washer bottle yesterday but what I thought was screen cleaner turned out to be radiator antifreeze. My question is could this damage things, i.e. the paintwork or plastic? I only put about a pint in then topped up with water so am I better trying to empty it out?

Apart from the obvious don't drink it . . . . . . Somewhere along the line I have had 2 different types of antifreeze mixed in my car. Don't know the names of them TBH but the one in the car was the new pink long life type apparently. When I got a coolant change some 18 months or so ago...
