  1. Why all Auto

    Alfa Stelvio
Sadly I think it's all to do with fudging the emissions. An auto box can be tweaked to give good, consistent results. With a manual the results can be as random as the driver. I'm very disappointed with the gearbox options in the current range (no option), I bought a 1.4 Giulietta with manual...

Earlier today a psychic dwarf escaped from custody. Police have issued the warning "Small medium at large"
  3. Installing Dashcam - fuse help.

    Alfa Giulietta
I piggy-backed off F31. It's labelled as "various devices" so I thought that would include dashcam in my case, also it's easy to get at. It's ignition switched and I've not had any issues since connecting a year ago.
  4. IAM - Anyone registered?

    General Motoring Discussion
It's not the accreditation that matters, it's the experience in achieving it that really counts. I don't know where in the country you are but if you or any others on here are in North Yorkshire / South Durham area want to find out what it's all about I'll be happy to meet up, have a drive and...
  5. What have you done to your Giulietta today?

    Alfa Giulietta
I was going to procrastinate but I think I'll do it later :)
  6. What have you done to your Giulietta today?

First wash of the year šŸš°. (Me and the car ;) )
  7. IAM - Anyone registered?

    General Motoring Discussion
I think it may depend on the observer you get. I start by looking at the car (is it a Yaris or Porsche?) and then asking what the driver wants to get out of the course and tailor the mentoring methods appropriately. Some people are much more comfortable making progress (we don't call it...
  8. IAM - Anyone registered?

    General Motoring Discussion
I would definitely say "go for it" but then I'm biased. I'm an observer for IAM and tutor for RoSPA advanced drivers. You could be very surprised as to how it increases your enjoyment of driving. I thought I enjoyed driving but since doing the advanced courses I realise that enjoyment is...

With the coming of autonomous vehicles how long will it be before someone writes a country & western song about a guy whose truck left him?

  12. Renting your TV

    Way Off Topic
I used to buy ex-Granada TV rentals sets, guaranteed not working, for 50p each. I could normally get 2 out of 3 working using the third as a spares donor. Then sell on for Ā£5 or Ā£10 each depending on the looks of the cabinet. I never quite made my first million. ;)
  13. Keith's question of the day

    Way Off Topic
It would run on time if it didn't have to keep stopping to pick up passengers  Seriously though... the local trains are a lower priority than inter-city ones. If an inter-city train is running slightly late then all the local services back up behind it. Only if the local train can...

  15. ULEZ, ‘pollution’ and sanctimonious NIMBYs

    Rant Room
Agreed, but the difference isn't that great. I suppose if there's a million vehicles then the difference may have some effect. Interesting that the government have considered raising the national speed limit to 80 when there are enough electric cars on the road and the pollution levels drop...
  16. Side lights using front fog lamps.

    Alfa Giulietta
Fog lights can be used with just sidelights and the DRLs double as sidelights (they dim slightly). My opinion is that they should be used with dipped headlights but lets face it a lot of drivers can't find their light switch in fog.
  17. A music question for AOers. Northern Soul

    Way Off Topic
I think Wigan Casino was/is popular for playing Motown and Wigan is north of London. I look at Northern Soul as what we called Motown when I was a lad. That might be an over simplified explanation but it does for me.
  18. How much are you paying per mile for RFL ?

    General Motoring Discussion
Only about 1.6p/m for the G 1.4MA. I was dreading to check but actually not too bad.
