  1. JTS valve failure

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
Hi, I've used 10W-60 oil, Selenia or Valvoline, rather thick oil in finnish winter indeed... There is no variable timing in JTS cams like was in TS. I have not found reliable root cause why many JTS engines burn so much oil. Plenty of possible reasons have been listed, like oval cylinders, flat...
  2. JTS valve failure

the exact manufacturing date I don't know now, but put between plates in 7/2003
  3. JTS valve failure

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
jts hi, It's 147tkm driven, approx. 90 miles. always 98 octane used. There have been no issues with injectors, and in workshop they thought that the Bosch injectors have been reliable. Yesterday I got the head back on block, but there are a lot of wires and pipes waiting for putting on their...
  4. JTS valve failure

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
Just for your information, a tragedy I just met. My 156 2.0JTS started to run with 3 cylinders after a highway trip and gave several fault messages, like cylinder 3 misfire. The new ignition coil and plugs did not help and further investigation showed there were no compression in cylinder 3...
  5. DIY Cambelt Replacement

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
I thought this forum was for discussion and sharing opinions. Clearly misunderstood. Now I know just to follow instructions and opinions of those 90% You Biffa mention.
  6. DIY Cambelt Replacement

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
As I wrote I have used the cam locking tools sofar, twice already. I mean the official locking tools separate for both cams. In addition I've used the dial gauge in the first spark plug hole to find the TDC. Picture from my first excercise. So, at least I believe the timing has been and is...
  7. DIY Cambelt Replacement

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
special tools I've changed 2.0 jts belts now twice. Both times I've used the locking tools, but I think it's not necessary if I'll trust timing has been okay sofar. For the next time I made a "pure man's locking tool" from a piece of old belt, hot glue and one long nut. The "tool" will be...
  8. cam wearing

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
OK thank's for comments. I don't find any steps by finger or nail, only visual "wearing" sofar.
  9. cam wearing

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
Is this kind of cam wearing beginning of the end? It's from 2.0JTS 2003 exhaust, 130tkm in the clock.
  10. 159 Detachable Towbar Pictures please

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
holes Drilling is not a problem, clean the edges of the holes, first some rust protection paint and after installation some body protective spray. Bolts hitting silencers were not an issue in my case.
  11. undertray stuck - rotating bolts

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
Common problem, I had to drill out some of the original "thread holes" and press new ones with a special tool.
  12. 2.4 Remap

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
Could you someone who has remapped the 2.4 JTDm make a performance test e.g. with racechrono (excellent free sw for symbian phones with internal or external GPS)? If possible 80-120km/h = 50-75mph. The 200hp 2.4 sw Q-tronic makes it in about 6 seconds, as stock. Would give some real info about...

  14. 2.4 Remap

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
no idea, racechrono seems to be available for windows and symbian only, but it's excellent really. You can e.g. load almost all race track profiles of the world and it shows not only the lap times, but the sector times also. (If you are used to have track days with your alfas in UK?) There are...

  16. Wheel Nut Torque settings - Do they exist?

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
Wrong Sorry, but that is not true at all. The opening torque depends mainly on the friction in cone between nut/bolt and the wheel. This friction can change a lot in short time period. We all lubricate the cone of course with a little knob of copper paste or equivalent before tightening, don't...
  17. any experience with EGR blanking plates?

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
why AR sells and installs the choke plates, because "it prolongs the service interval of the egr valve" Probably the emissions of the engine has been measured and approved to certain class before and without the plate. Even with the holes, the plate is nip and tuck legal...

  20. 2.4 JTDm cam belt change DIY

    Alfa 159, Brera & 946 Spider
no way Elearn says so, but nobody is doing it that way. The upper engine support has to be removed and engine supported underneath. It shouldn't be so difficult but some pictures always help beginning.
