  1. Catastrophic Water Pump Failure

    Alfa Giulietta
It is amazing what people will buy. I sold a secondhand and warped cam cover from a Fiat coupe a few years back. Also looking at waterpumps for my Bimmer on ebay there are loads of used ones for sale.
  2. Catastrophic Water Pump Failure

    Alfa Giulietta
Plastic impeller? They have a habit of doing that when the get older. The heat/cold cycles make the plastic brittle. At least it didn't seize and make the cambelt come off or snap like it can on some of the diesels.
  3. Durability of Giulietta front brake pads and discs

    Alfa Giulietta
Not really, just a mix of town and A/B road driving with the occasional motorway trip (about 3 times per year) Modern asbestos free pads do wear discs relatively quickly.
  4. Durability of Giulietta front brake pads and discs

    Alfa Giulietta
I put Bendix front discs and Pagid pads on the front of ours at 65,000 miles. Now on 102,000 miles and I would say that the pads are about 50% worn but the discs are about 75% worn. They have a bit of a lip on them.
  5. High Mileage Giulietta

    Alfa Giulietta
If it has been correctly looked after it will be fine. You are better off buying a car which has actually been used rather than something which has done 5 miles per week and has rarely got up to the correct operating temperature. At that mileage it may need some work in the suspension...
  6. Cam lock tool help.

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
 Lol, This thread is over 12 years old. I know they are M7, I made a mistake in the post you quoted. Post #63 above says they are M7. ;)
  7. Little issues

    Alfa Giulietta
You might have water in your hatch from a leaking wiper motor seal.
  8. Water INSIDE the boot door....

    Alfa Giulietta
The erratic nature of the wiper on ours hasn't happened since I fixed the boot wiring. I found 4 broken wires on one side and two broken on the other.
  9. Why do they all look the same?

    General Motoring Discussion
That is fair enough, but the majority of SUV's you see don't have more seats than a bigger estate car. Many SUV's also give the impression that they should have some offroad ability, where as in practice they have no more than a normal car. But they still have the downsides of higher centre of...
  10. Why do they all look the same?

    General Motoring Discussion
The problem I see is that when a manufacturer tries to do something different they almost always end up being ugly. The newest Honda Civic, the latest BMW range with the oversized front grill, the Nissan Juke being good examples. I don't get the SUV thing either, they don't do anything that a...
  11. Changing Giulietta Seats

    Alfa Giulietta
I have removed seats and refitted with the same type if that is any help? It is very straightforward. Just make sure the ignition is off before undoing the connector under them otherwise you will end up with airbag faults.
  12. Water INSIDE the boot door....

    Alfa Giulietta
Also don't rule out buying the seal from a dealer if you have one local to you. They can be reasonably priced on things like that.
  13. New FCA in-line 6 !?

    General Alfa Discussion
I had a 1.0 Ecoboost ST line Focus as a courtesy car when my own Focus got written off. It was ok, about the same performance and fuel economy as a 4 cylinder normally aspirated 1.6 Focus... Totally pointless IMO. I averaged 38mpg during my time with it.
  14. Tyre pressures

    General Motoring Discussion
Yes you should adjust pressures throughout the year.
  15. New FCA in-line 6 !?

    General Alfa Discussion
I don't consider Japanese cars any more reliable than anything else these days. They have similar technology and mechanical engineering so why would they be much different?
  16. Alfa 1.8ts comparability with fiat Hgt/coupe 1.8

Engines (TS, JTS, JTD & V6)
Pretty sure that the engine block is the same, the head is different. Not sure about the crank, pistons etc. 1.8 TS engines don't tend to burn oil at the same rate that the 2.0 versions do.
  17. One-liners

    Way Off Topic
I have always been told that I would never be good at poetry because I am dyslexic. But today I managed to make 3 jugs and a Vase.
  18. One-liners

    Way Off Topic
The other day a Madman escaped from the local asylum. He ran to the laundrette where he sexually assaulted two of the staff and then he simply legged it. The newspaper headline the next day "Nut screws washers and bolts."
  19. Autodoc/Buycarparts.co.uk: Successful civil case

    General Motoring Discussion
Good result. I haven't used them, although I very nearly did order some bits for the BMW recently. Another seller to avoid.
  20. Tyre pressures

    General Motoring Discussion
It is down to cars getting heavier. Also cars with run flat tyres often have very high pressures. The rear of my BMW 335i were specified at 2.9 bar. (about 43psi)
