  5. 1.9 JTD GT Motor Control System Failure

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
This may help Our 147 1.9 JTDm (2005) had a similar intermittent fault. Finally took action when it happened twice in 1 day. In the case of our car the fault only manifested it self when the engine was at full operating temp, at full throttle, in gear 3,4, typically going up hill just as you...

  7. 2005 156 1.9 jtd mjet cambelt failure

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
If its any help. I've done this job twice now as a DIY on a 2005 147 16v Jtdm. The first time was about 1 yr after we got the car @4 yrs old and 43K and the most recent at 9 yrs old and 92K; so I think its safe to conclude - change the belt at 4 and not 5 yrs. I to was told that tappets and...
  8. Exterior door handle hinge

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Looks identical to the ones I've just replaced/regreased on our 147. Assuming its the same part I can confirm the same hinge is used on LHS and RHS of 3d and 5d. (I've got a 5d and took a used one off a 3d)
  9. Worth a punt or steer clear and go original?

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Its basically a poor design made worse with sub-standard materials; and none of the brands I've bought have been greased!! The near side one always goes first on our car, on account of the bashing it gets whilst driving down country roads. Driver side usually lasts a bit longer 6 - 12 months The...
  10. Changed uppers and its STILL creaking!

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Assume noise is coming from the front! Complete new arms or crappy poly-bushes..is the long bolt tight enough? Disconect the drop links and tie up out of the way to isolate the ARB..... go for short gentle drive and see if it still makes a noise.
  11. Put yer trousers on son... your nicked !!

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
My 2 cents worth....... Our 147 JTD (on 16 inch wheels) runs between Portsmouth - Winchester (on back roads) 4 x week. Back in 2010 @ 48K miles I changed all the shocks and springs for Koni FSD's and Eibach Pro springs. This made the ride more sporty and got rid of the floaty feeling exiting...
  12. Stiff/Heavy Clutch Alfa GT JTDM

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
@Alex87f. Only the c-clip holds the slave cylinder..so yours has probably rusted in place. You can remove the actuating arm with the slave in place.......... Clean around the top of the actuating arm to expose the small c-clip. Remove c-clip. Push/pull connecting rod (between arm and slave)...
  13. 147 GTA Eibach pro kit springs ride height

    Alfa GTA
Don't know if this will help any but.... I have 2 cars: 147 1.9 Jtd - on FSd and Eibach pro springs - Its low and the undertray contacts most speed bumps, ride quality is firmed up and there is little body roll but, the ride quality at low speed around town does get annoying, and if you hit...
  14. Stiff/Heavy Clutch Alfa GT JTDM

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
@ Jimmybay How many miles has you car/clutch done. If your happy the new slave is working and you have bleed the system correctly. It only really leaves 3 things. Clutch master cylinder - most likely - The primary lip/oil seal has probably got a small nick on it (from passing over the fluid...
  15. Stiff/Heavy Clutch Alfa GT JTDM

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Quick update.... I originally did this repair back in Sept 2010 (See post 13) Feb 2012 and clutch had just started to get stiff again, so I have just re-lubed the clutch release shaft lower bearing and all is well. So 15-16 months not bad for a temp repair. Note on Top bush removal........ I...

  17. Genuine wishbone greasing

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
The link posted by Toso showing the separated upper arm bush, is how I did mine. Use less grease it only wants a light coating on the bearing surfaces (the surfaces with the '+++' on) Apply grease so you can still just see the tops of the '+++' Tutela Zeta 2 is a lithium grease so long term...
  18. Genuine wishbone greasing

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
@156Jtdiesel The bushes in the upper arm can be disassembled. The bushes in the lower arm are bonded in and therefore fixed. I fitted new uppers and lowers 'Birth' brand from shop4parts last year. I dismantled the upper bushes and added some extra grease....not much in there from new. You need a...
  19. Wishbones

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
Talking upper arms......... From personal experience polybushes are a waste of time and money on a road car as they don't last very long (10-12K) and cost more than new after market arms. As pointed out in earlier posts the cheaper arms can fail early as they have little or no lube. Original...
  20. Stiff/Heavy Clutch Alfa GT JTDM

    Alfa 147, 156 & GT
@ conaero: Its always a pig of a job when you are paying sombody else to do the work!! It will also be a pig of a job if you don't know what you are doing and/or don't have the right tools!!!!!:cheese: @ losparx I don't know. If the GT uses the same gearbox as the GTA I would say yes, but...
