      Over-sensor-tive Alfa. Like it 🙂

So having bought a couple of 10k thermistors together with some heat shrink sleeve back in March, prompted by the weather warming up and no climate control, today I finally plucked up courage to prise off the mirror glass.

After a bit of trial and error, I found a plastic cycle tyre lever gave enough leverage close to the clips to lessen the chance of a broken mirror. It also distorted the mirror housing a bit which allowed me to get another tool between mirror and mounting to release it. The rest was easy. I didn't bother removing anything else - I just cut the wires to the old sensor and soldered the new thermistor on having first slipped shrink sleeve over the leads, which I then slid back over the soldered joint and used the heat gun on. I considered using some mastic or glue to stick the thermistor to the mirror housing but elected to just bend it around the back of the housing and leave it hanging around. Clipped glass back in and job done. Thanks to everyone for your contributions to this thread.

Any guesses on what's going to break next?

Interestingly I was just about to bump this thread myself! Having attacked the door connector with a bucket’s worth of contact cleaner and an old toothbrush, I’m now fairly certain that it is the sensor causing my car to think it’s in northern Canada.

Couple of noddy questions if you don’t mind...will any 10K thermistor do? Presumably one of the ones with long ish legs. They aren’t directional are they (not like I have a HNC in electrical engineering )?

I’m looking to take your approach and just lop the sensor off the end (do love a bodge ). Is it fairly secure just tucked in behind? Is there anything to cable tie it to for ultimate bodgery? Will probably drill a drain hole while I’m at it.

While we’re on the subject of temperature...my passenger side only blows hot. Assume it’s the mixer flap. First of all is there anything else (preferably easier) that it could be? And secondly (I think I know the answer to this) how difficult is it to get to on a RHD car? Assume it isn’t just a case of removing the glovebox and being magically presented with very easy to access bolts :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:. It is an Alfa after all...

      Cheers all!
