Broken MX5 to potential Alfa

Hi guys

well, my MX5 got written off on Friday and waiting for everything to sort itself out. I doubt it's repairable so I'm considering an Alfa. In fact, I'm not even considering it! So soon enough I don't need to preten to be owning one (and have the keyring - yes, really) I might actually have one.

Mainly thinking GTV (twinny not a V6) or 147 as the insurance is below 600 for those.

Any other suggestions?

There was someone on here trying to give a GTV away yesterday.

Gaz has a spare one too.

GTV!

The 147 is just a hatchback.

Not considering a spider K?

No I'm not fussed about the spiders, funnily enough I dont really like them, other than the most recent models.

A GTV tempts me more than a 147. It's the insurance that's worrying me a bit because of the accident. I'll see how much I get from the payout first.

Hi
My wife keep changing between the two (Gtv & Mx5) we find the Insurance is the same no change on premium for either we are with Chris Knott at moment who seem competetive with Alfa though footman james is usually better with the five good luck with it

hope your ok
i just got rid of my 147, nice little cars good handling. the 1.6 is a little under powered so go for the 2.0, never driven a GTV so couldn't comment, but neither has Gaz so don't listen to him either

think the 147 would be cheaper on insurance but go for it any alfa is better then none

Thanks Ja5on - I'll bear that in mind. I wonder which one she prefers more...the MX5 or the Alfa? I'll go back to a 5 but I want it to be a MK3 or 3.5

I was thinking 2.0 petrol or 1.9 diesel for the 147. Think it would have to be the petrol. although with all the miles to Gaz's a diseasal would be better for fuel consumption. test drives are required I think.

Hi K,
check out Simplyalfas 'for sale' section they have several 147's, both petrol and diesel, might just be worth a look.
Cheers Les

it will be easier to find a good 147 than a good GTV simply through the numbers available

I would go or a GTV though, that said, I found the roof slightly too low to get properly comfortable, like looking out of a letterbox whereas a 147 has plenty of adjustment.

Either way, good cars

Thanks everyone. I'd also thought about GT. If I'm honest I prefer the GTV because it similar to the 5 in the sense that you're sat *in* the car, rather than on it.

I'd absolutely LOVE a V6 but the insurance was expensive before the accident, let alone after! (even though I was the innocent party).

So I need to stick to being sensible I think. Driven Gaz and Ann's GTV's and they are super, so it would be good to drive a twinny and see what the difference actually is.

I'm excited...............

Thanks dude :-) what would you like to know?

She has the obvious externally, and black leather interior. It's bolt standard and in very good condition, and very well loved and looked after by her previous owner. 75k miles and no lights are on on the dash board. FSH, cambelt done last month and full service, MOT for a yr, tax till the end of Oct 11...um...and she's GORGEOUS to drive. Great brakes, good responsive steering and changes gear nicely too. They don't half go don't they?!
