Seasider and Jaydh.

I'll be taking a trek up the M1 if you want to meet up at South Mimms.

Up the M1 ?????

Personally I'd go round the M25 a little further and then straight up the M40

But South Mimms could be a good place to meet anyway

My family live in the Midlands, so I do the route about 30 times a year.
M40 is full of average speed cameras, which I detest.
Theres nothing in it for time or miles but theres a couple of nice driving roads (M45, A4455) if we go up the M1.
Too boring for me, going up the M40 at 70mph and then only having a couple of miles to drive on A roads.
I'll leave it up to you mate, but I'm happy to meet at South Mimms either way.

I've not been round it before but its worth doing for the experience, its not very expensive either They do have a photographer there too so you can buy pictures. The general public arent allowed in to take pictures tho cos its 'top secret'

Oh. Sounds interesting.
I'm not really geared up for racing on the track. Tend to stick to A-roads.
Do I need to be togged up? (Helmet, gloves, overalls and shades?)

I went on their track two years ago. You're behind a pace car all the way, whose driver gives you a briefing at the start. At our one, he told us we wouldn't go over 70mph unless we all behaved ourselves. He said if we were all good, we might go "a bit faster". I peaked at the end of the straight at 140mph

You don't have to wear any helmet or other gear. The main photo is taken in the middle of the straight. On the first lap, they stop everyone and park the cars up in a grid formation. The drivers all then stand by their cars grinning like fools and a group shot is taken. In addition, there are a couple of photographers positioned around the track who take "action shots". Somehow or other, they missed me on every lap - can't think why

Definitely worth the money for a quick go on the track I'd say

Excellent. Thanks for that info.

I guess it'd be rude not to have go.

Aubrey - do you know if Soft Top drivers need to put their roofs up or were a helmet ?

V6 - well the Spider isn't that dynamic so blasting down some A-roads doesn't bother me, the important bit is getting in before the Lambos if they're all turning up in a convoy again, M25/M40 is fine by me

The reason why they don't want you to take photos while out on the track is it's Astons Test track and they don't want the fine detail of the track layout to be known and also there might be the odd prototype vehicle out on the track somewhere too

Looks like the cost is 20 for track pre-book and 30 on the day ... no details on the Gaydon site tho that's all fom the Auto Italia site

I took my GTV round there last year... was great fun, there was an F355 going round the track with the roof panel removed, but I'm not sure whether normal convertibles can take their tops off or not.

No idea I'm afraid - it was cold two years ago, so I doubt anyone would've had their roof down anyway!
