Newbie to UAE

Hello all,

I'm moving to UAE in the next couple of weeks. I'm not bringing my GTA as I'm not sure on a few things.......

1) It will stand up to all of the sand!?

2) I can find any specialist to work on it as I only trust AutoLusso in the UK!!

3) Are there any specialists and are there any GTA owners on here that I could meet with when I'm there for my regular/geeky Alfa-fix???

Romano.

Hi Romano, you can of course bring your GTA here. There's a small but hard core group of Alfa fans, some GTA owners, and (in Dubai) the official Alfa dealer where you can have your car serviced. only issue is if your car has right side driving (UK style), then the car won't be allowed here. Where are you going to move?

Oh no, I didn't know that a right hand drive just wasn't allowed!! That's even more pants!! I thought it would be allowed but maybe needed to be tested or certified etc. Not happy now :-(

welcome!

make that 2 Alfas now now..my sale has been completed to a very nice english gentleman. maybe he can offer you more advise...and the other Alfa belonging to steve is in the garage and he won't sell

as for an alfa gta, there was a red manual Alfa for sale...looked very nice. go to dubizzle, and you can find good deals.

the heat is not an issue for the engine..mine never specifically did anything because of heat except for the windshield wipers getting too hard....and just once it refused to start for about 5 minutes when i had left it for too long in a scalding hot sun..i don't even have covered parking, so it will be fine.

i hear that the UK residents need a very cool ac to keep them happy, so it will not satisfy you, although it is very much up to the job.

Hi Romano,

In my experience GTA's stand up to the UAE environment extremely well. I've owned mine from new in July 2005... It's my daily drive (at the rate of 20,000 Klms per year) and to date it still looks and drives like a new car. It doesn't have the luxury of covered parking, but I've not yet had the problems experienced by krackpot.

If you do decide once you've arrived that you need a GTA, keep in touch with the guys here on the forum, and between us we may be able to find something...

For example I've recently been informed by a work colleague that there is currently a red 147 GTA parked under cover outside a villa on one of the new estates here in Abu Dhabi, which has apparently not turned a wheel in months. I've not yet seen it, but I will investigate sometime this week.

Not only GTA's. I owned my 2001 156 v6 from new and now it has 225,000 km on the clock. Still drives beautifully

Hi KP,

So far this week I've been too busy on the work front to investigate & locate the owner, but it is located in Al Reef on the opposite side of the street from my colleague's villa... So I'll catch up with it soon

Hi AlfaMartini,

The Red 147 GTA at Al Reef is mine, sorry it's not for sale.

It's interesting that your friend thinks it hasn't been used for a while, it's my daily drive.

You are most welcome to pop by and have a look, as long as you don't mind me taking a few photo's of your car

Hi t1fosi,

Nice to hear from you.

We must definately meet up sometime for a chat, and to compare notes on our GTA's.

Talking of Alfas for sale, my 2000 3L 166 Sportronic is up for grabs. I'm happy to consider any offer of AED8000 or above.
