Only the new 3.2 in the 159 is GM derived. The 156 and the GT all had the all Alfa v6 which is the best v6 in the world.

I ended up not selling my manual GT - one of your forum members convinced me I'm not a nutter for owning an Alfa in the land of sand

It was dealer-serviced all the way to 110,000kms. Now that the second timing belt change is coming up, I'm thinking of going to the guys in Al Qusais instead of the dealerhsip. Any advice/suggestions?

I am in two minds about the guys in Al Qusais, they are ok for the simple jobs, but I had my car in for a camshaft change, and was VERY disappointed in their lack of knowledge on how to set the valve lap on the old 12V V6 engine. The only reason I didnt do it my self is a) lack of special tools required b) it is a massively time consuming and precision job.
Got it back and it was worse than before....said they understood how to do the shimming, and when pressed they argued that it is done by a normal tappet setting method. This is true for the exhaust valves, but NOT for the inlets. I wont be going back to them for that sort of job...
That being said, a simpler job like a timing belt they should be ok with.

Bottom line....you get what you pay for.

Have the same feedback. They're great for AC and minor jobs, but IMO lack expertise & professional attitude of Gargash.

I was quoted a ridiculous amount for a spark plug.

thanks all, makes me feel a lot better about the stacks of dirhams I've handed to Gargash in the past

got cold-called by an interested buyer, so to be fair I should mention here too that I'm again open to selling it. I have a lot of travel coming up, including two months away from July 1st; wouldn't be right to just park the GT from now until October, so if interested in a stick shift GT...

The guys in Al Qusais converted my GTA from Selespeed to manual. I'm now running a 2.5 V6 C530 gearbox with a shorter 1'st gear ratio, the Q2 diff that was in my old Selespeed gearbox, etc..

The car runs great. I am now waiting for a new gear knob, gear stick, console, leather gaiter, etc from EB spares.

That seems a lot more complicated than a cambelt change -- something Gargash wouldn't undertake (?)

How much did it cost?
