New to Alfa and the UAE

Hello,

I've been in the UAE for about 3 months now (specifically Al Ain where I work at the airport). I bought a 2000 166 3litre 24v about 6 weeks ago and am just getting used to my first Italian car after running Rovers and Jaguars in the UK for the last six years or so.

It's got quite a few car-park scars, a bit of a clonk from the front left suspension (I suspect wishbone bushes as the balljoints all seem nice and tight) and the aircon is only just up to the job. Other than that it seems OK.

Hopefully this forum will be useful to me as I get used to running a relatively old (by UAE standards) car with no dealer nearby!

Welcome to the UAE, Richard, and to Alfa! Yours looks really nice, also the inside, is the screen providing also a GPS? Suppose the maps are way out of date. Should you come to Dubai let us know, we can organize a meeting, otherwise we'll come to Al Ain, but more towards winter time. Good choice!

Hi Richard and welcome to Dubai and to the club.

Nice car, love the colour as well. I am not sure how many cars are in Al Ain and I am relatively sure there are no specialists out there. Those cars are bullet proof with the right care in my opinion. My 156 v6 is now 210,000km and going strong.

Marco, 166 comes with GPS but never had maps for the UAE.

That's my understanding of it. I'm tempted to remove the kit and sell it next time I'm back in the UK.

I only know of one other Alfa in Al Ain - a late 1980s vintage Spider in a dealership (a work colleague of mine is trying to persuade himself to buy it!).

A meet up would be good - after Ramadan and heading into the cooler autumn temperatures!
