Thumbs Up AOUAE - Parts Group Buy 1 - July 2009

Guys,

I'm going to be buying some parts from EB Spares in the next two weeks or so, if you want any parts for your cars, let me know so that i can sort out the quotes, shipping, customs duties, etc.

I'll start with myself;

-156 GTA Clutch Kit x 1pcs
-156 GTA Insertion Range Sensor
-156 GTA Gear Selection Sensor
-156 GTA Clutch Speed Sensor

Let me know what else you would like me to add to the shopping list. I will finaise the order by the 15 July 2009. Any orders received after then will go into the next batch. I do a group buy every month so i can always work something out for you.

Cheers,

Stephen Manjai

Group buys

Hi Stephen,

I am looking to purchase a right front headlight for my 2006 156. Gargash charges an arm and a leg. Could you please include it in your next group purchase? Let me know what you need from me. It would be very much appreciated.

Regards
Francois

Stephen, these are the parts I need:

Evaporator A7780349
Valve A82479336
Filter A60616203
AC Pipe A60628183

Could you check pricing? I already checked with Germany and prices are more or less same as here.

Can anyone give me an idea, off the top of their heads, of what prices to expect to pay in the UAE for the following?:

Front springs
Front dampers
Lower wishbones

Thanks

Hey Richard,

I have no idea about springs and I dont think you would need to replace them.

The dampers for 156 are around 500AED
The Lower Wishbone is around 300AED

Above are dealer prices in Dubai but you may be able to get them cheaper from places like EB Spares in the UK. Calculate it with shipping and 5% import duty.

Cheers

Car Parts and Car Accessories - Buy Parts By in the UK are doing springs for 31 (AED170), dampers for 55 (AED300) and lower wishbones for 21 (AED121). I may just pick some up next time I'm in the UK, especially as I can get them free of UK VAT, of course.

The front left spring has definitely gone soft and it also feels like the damper has lost effectiveness. It hits the bump stops on the slightest bump/ridge/speed hump.

It needs the registration if you use the search box at the top left, but if you use the category search in the centre of the page you can search by model.

That said, I don't know if I will bother to do anything about the springs - I'm quite possibly just going to sell the car. I really haven't "bonded" with it and quite honestly I don't feel emotionally attached enough to forgive the design deficiencies which become more evident every time I drive it. I can't help feeling that it's a great engine in need of a better home.

Hi All,

I see that there is some very slow movement of parts in this thread, I am hoping that it is because all your Alfa's are in pristine running condition and dont need any attention.... Is that it.

I have been trying to get some parts recently from EBSpares, Buypartsby, Shopforparts and of course Fleabay. I am plagued by the constant problem of not being able to get accurate shipping costs from them, and it is doing my head in. The other problem of course is that from the UK, many of the motor factors are not able to ship to an address that is not linked to the credit card, and then they wont ship out of the UK.

I did some hunting around locally and it seems there are many agents for well known OEM manufacturers, for example Dynatrade
They are the agents for LuK, Sachs, Bilstein, Boge, Tokiko, Valeo & a number of others. There are actually a lot of agents here and the simple truth is that they are simply UNWILLING to help us. I have discovered that the simple mention of Alfa Romeo sets them on the the NO route and they then go into dumb mode. More recently, I have been finding the part numbers for the OEM parts that they CAN get if they wanted to make the effort. When they ask me what car, I merely say that it is irrelevant, please give me cost and availability or delivery time. Once they find out it is Alfa.....back to NO, we dont supply that.
What follows is nasty for sure, but should I care?? I call up the head honcho's at the respective company and ask them why they are unwilling to help....sometimes they change their tune, other times not. If not, I simply call up the manufacturers and ask them why their agents are unwilling to help me when I am going through the correct channels.
I have been receiving favourable responses and I now have the MD of KYB Middle East sourcing shocks for my 155, I also have received a quote from the local Bilstein agent quoting me a price for some B4 front shocks....not bad either....EUR74 each landed (ok, 10 weeks delivery, but I am awaiting the airfreight pricing)

I have had ENOUGH of these people and their attitude, and I am going to take the rough route, I fail to see why I should BIN my car because as the holders of the agency, they will not help me.

Sooooo, if anyone is looking for some parts like brake disks, clutches, brake pads, shocks, wishbones, bearings, tie-rod ends etc etc....lets get together and get them to help us out.

Most of the time I get onto the VALEO online catalog, or the Quinton Hazel one and search for the relevant part numbers. KYB, Bilstein, Lemforder, ZF, SACHS, LUK and most other OEMs have online catalogs....I think collectively we are in a better position.

Anyone need anything?

Hey there,

To answer your first question, yes our cars are running like clock work now :-)

To answer your second question, also yes, I would like to get some Koni FSD and a Q2 Diff but not sure if they can be sourced from other than Alfa specialists. I might consider Belstine as an alternative. Need to read up about it etc...

We have ordered EB spares before and paid for them with local credit cards. It was not a problem to be honest. The dealer here is useless as you mentioned. But if you have a good relationship with them sometimes you maybe able to land yourself some good deals and avoid buying things abroad and ship.

Anyone else needs anything??

mossawi....

The Koni's might be a problem to find here, but the Bilstein get nothing but good reviews. I am not sure which Alfa you have but check the part number on the Bilstein webcat, and I am sure it can be arranged. The Q2 diff will have to be an import.
KYB have sourced shocks for me, and sent me an SMS today. They are mailing me the price for all 4 shocks. KYB are the closest thing to the originals, and are not really performance orientated. If you are looking for performance gear, the guys at Performance Group in Al Quoz have the agency for a lot of good stuff, including Koni, H&R Springs, Silicone hoses, Eibach braces etc and they are willing to bring stuff in if you are going to buy it.

The stuff I am looking for is the OEM stuf to keep my car on the road....I want it as close to original as possible and a nice drive. I am not a speedster, I just love the sound, feel and experience of an Alfa so no racing for me..

If you go to WebCat 3 you can get the part numbers, production and availability of the parts, and then we collectively pounce on the local agents and get them to bring them in on THEIR courier account. The more parts we bring, the cheaper it is.
EB spares is very helpful, but trying to get the shipping costs out of them is difficult....and at the end of the day, most of the stuff you get from them is the same as what you get on the site I have mentioned above...all OEM and all available worldwide (apart from Dubai where it is just a hassle for the parts dealers to help)

Had a little read around but I think Koni's will be the way forward.

The webcat thing is very interesting, they do have the UAE on the country list. Does that mean they deliver here?

Mossawi,

The webcat just gives part numbers, but officially they have agents here so ANYTHING on that list should be available for order from a local dealer. The problem is getting the local dealer to actually co-operate and place the order...most of them are simply unwilling. This is the reason I am going straight to the management level, and if they dont co-operate, to the suppliers themselves to find out why their agents are being so pathetic..
Try Performance Group for the Koni's they said to me they would help.
I have got the KYB's, front and rears delivered by courier, for AED2000. Bargain in my eyes, except the shipping was exactly half of that

You can call them on (04)340 1804...or go to Yahoo! UK.

I think the guys name there was Jaics.

I didnt go into too much but as a testing ground he wanted to sell me HKS springs for the 155 for about AED1800, they are available on eBay for AED540, and if you double it for shipping, I thought his price was a little high.

He had a fair amount of stock items, but I would make sure you know approximate price of what you want, then go negotiate with him. I have no problem with people making a living, and even making decent margin, but I dont like to be ripped off....
