red 159 Ti, maintenance&general new owner tips

HI,

I have just got a lovely sept 2010 red 159 Ti saloon, 70,000, full service history, i just got a full service, belt & pump change at alfa indi, said car is in great conditioning, even supsension, gear box is gubbed and trying to get sorted under warranty, i know all about their history, the car is in great nick and i want to maintain its condition as best as possible, can any kind folk suggest some things i can do and to look out for in regards to maintenance, much appreciated.

You are most welcome.

Usually it is best to remove the swirl flaps together with timing belt change (saves money and time)...as you do have to remove the inlet manifold.

Dumb question from a fellow 2010 159 ti owner. Does my 2.0Jtd have swirl flaps? what do they do? and should i be worried about them?

Yes you have them. But as far as I know, they have improved the design of those flaps, so there is less chance of them breaking and destroying your engine.

On a 1.9 JTDm this is quite common. One of the flaps breaks away and enters the combustion chamber. There it can do any kind of damage, from breaking the piston or one of the valves. To damaging the turbo... Or all of the above.

But I haven't heard of anything like that happening on 2.0 JTDm

no worries, good info to pick up, i will investigate this tribesman when i am booking in for DPF removal and remap, thanks guys.
