Retrofitting sensors on old cars

Hi All Alfa Guys!

Me and my friend are currently developing an idea to create a completely wireless sensor system that could be retrofitted to any kind of older vehicles or even boats.

We are just in the beginning so I'm not here to sell anything (we are far away from having a finished product) but rather to reach out to the people we hope would love the kind of system to understand your needs and get feedback.

The system will utilize small, self powered sensors (much like TPMS sensors) that wirelessly connects to a central gateway unit that can logg data for analyzing later, as well as provide real time gauges and intel.

We have created a website to explain the vision more in depth: retrosense

Our dream is t create a affordable system that can help us classic car guys get the same level of information about our cars as new vehicles with all their built in sensors and computers, but still have a system that doesn't have a bunch of ugly and annoying wiring and that's easy to install.

Since Alfa owners have an eye for style and looks please let us know if you like it or what you don't like.

Thanks!

your sensors need wires anyway, for 12v or 5v feed and a decent ground.

Hi,

That might have been true in the passed, but the systems we are working with do not require external power and will therefore work without any wires at all.

This technology is already on the market in tire pressure sensors that operate for years without battery changes, transmitting to a central gateway.

Thank you!

true, they do. but the tpms sensors switch off when the car speed is low to save the battery.
