6 Speed Gearbox Options

Hi All,

Have been a member and lurking here for a while now, and am finally working towards my v6 install. Quick recap, I have a Lancia Montecarlo, which is now without engine and gearbox. I have a Cloverleaf 164 v6 engine and manual gearbox, but would prefer to fit a six speed box.

I also need to change the output driveshaft cups to the 2 litre TS version to fit my driveshafts.

Question is, which gearboxes will bolt straight to the 12 valve unit? Linkage doesn't matter because it will have to reversed anyway for a mid mount and I plan to make up a cable operated setup.

Initially, I will leave her normally aspirated, with the standard setup, but plans for the future include Megasquirt to running timing and injection, as well as the addition of an Eton M90 blower.

Thanks in advance guys and look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Darren

any v6 gearbox after 98 has 6 speeds and will fit.
of you use the 12v diff cover you can also fit speedo ring on the 24v diff (or better q2 or quaiffe).
166 ts "cups" might fit , not sure about that.

Thanks for the info, Allerd - I'll look for a six speed 166 TS gearbox then, and fingers crossed the driveshaft cups will work!

Cheers

166 TS gearbox won't fit onto the V6 engine, bellhousing is different. You could use any V6 6-speed manual box. 166 TS output flanges will work with a V6 box but 156/147 etc output flanges will not. What makes you think you need to change the output flanges? You should just be able to use your originals that came off the 5-speed and use the 5-speed driveshafts,.

Hi Pud237,

Thanks for that - was about to make an expensive mistake! Thanks also for the advice on the output flanges. The reason for changing is that I have the Monte driveshafts on the car, but none of the 164 ones. I suppose it could be possible to simply put a 164 CV joint on the end of the Monte driveshaft? Anyone know the diameter and number of teeth on the 164, 3 litre 5 speed cars?

Cheers

Darren

Sorry I can't help you there, I was just thinking about doing the conversion in the front of a 164. Driveshafts can be made up if required, Propshaft UK do custom stuff. Inner half from one car and outer half from another etc.
