V6 gearbox

Hi all,
1st thread, go easy on me!
I have a Ferrari Dino replica, it uses a 3.0 V6 12V engine, but the engine is broke.
I am considering fitting a 24v 3.0 V6 engine instead, would the gearbox be the same, plus also would there be anything else which I need to consider?
thanks
Phil.

Kind of depends - what car did the 3.0 12v engine and gearbox (5 speed or 6 speed?) come from, and what car are you looking to get the 24v engine from? Fundamentally these things are interchangeable, but there are various differences around clutch and flywheel which might be an issue for your swap.

Welcome to AO Phil.

As sprint says there might be some matching hurdles to overcome and not 100% predictable from this angle, but nothing is impossible with matching them up. Here in SA we have a couple of guys who matched 80's GTV transaxles to 24V motors.

So go for it and let us know how it goes.

hmmm, thank you. Not sure which car it came from as it was in when I bought the car, but it's a 5 speed box.
I have just checked the new one and it also comes with the box, (Alfa Romeo 166 98-07 3.0 V6 24v Engine, Gearbox), so if the engine and box fit in place of the 12v engine and box, is there anything else I need to consider?
Thanks for your help.
Phil.

The 98 seems to have the 6 speed box:
1998 Alfa Romeo 166 3.0 V6 24v specifications, information, data, photos 31988

The driveshaft splines might look a bit different where they plug into the box, but that should be overcame by matching the correct inner CV. Have a look 1st.

The 24V put out quite a bit more power than the 12V so your management must be adjusted for it to correct the fueling, but the same basic config stays the same.
