1.9 JTDm tuning

So I've had my GT for almost a year now, having fitted a tuning box right from the start.

What should be next to get more power?

I was thinking bigger intercooler, or exhaust.

If i was to go exhaust, is a decat pipe better than a new less restrictive backbox?

Both intercooler and decat (+downpipe) are good next steps. And get rid of tuning box and go for proper remap.

is the downpipe from the turbo? The exhaust guys told me it would be pointless replacing this pipe?

yes, there is another mesh (precat) inside, good to get rid of.

Getting rid of the cats will make a massive difference to how the car feels, it's much more responsive and pulls much better, can't say which affects it most as I took both mine off at the same time.
The intercooler does make a difference but it's not as noticeable under normal use.

And as Yan.ko says lose the tuning box and get a proper remap, you will notice a lot of difference.

Make sure your clutch is healthy before uping your power.

Already had a brand new clutch and flywheel this year.

I think im deffo going for the decat, then possibly downpipe or backbox

i'd love to do FMIC but looks like a lot of hassle routing pipework

Get the Decat downpipe from JS Tuning, I'm soon to get one, I've ordered a KN panel filter although I'm pretty sure it won't make much difference, after that decide whether you want a FMIC( maybe 10-15bhp but is it worth the hassle)? I like the idea of a FMIC but don't think I'll ever bother. Once you have finished modding mechanically sell your tuning box and get it custom remapped + EGR delete. I personally think 200bhp is the most you want from this engine, to keep drivability, economy and reliability.

What year is your GT John?
