local garage or specialist

Hello guys

as some of you may be aware my clutch is slipping on my 1.9jtdm GT so ive decided to change this along with putting in a Differential .

having recently just paid 400 for a cambelt change from a specialist i am wondering is it worth going back or could i just use my local garage ?

surely they will know what they are doing themselfs but then do you take the risk with some expensive kit

No. Specialist only. Even if it's just a clutch I've seen enough lashed together cars from "normal garages" to know they aren't worth it. Unless you are doing it yourself where you can ask questions then a specialist is the only sensible option

They aren't really. The problem is specialist know the vehicles. Will know the snags special tools etc. A garage that fixes everything won't as they don't do them day in day out. If I owned an Astra I would take it to a Vauxhall specialist as well.

You pay for their skill and knowledge. In the end you'll probably save money as you don't end up redoing botched jobs or replacing parts broken because they weren't taken off correctly etc. believe me I know how jobs can cost a lot but knowing your car is in safe hands is worth the extra

Fiat specialists can do the job too ... many of the parts are shared ... when I had my 'box swapped the guy said the box was very similar to Fiat ones he'd been trained on ...

But he's on Berkshire/Buckinghamshire not Yorkshire so not much use to Adam ...
