EGR Trickery

Hey everyone..

ive recently blanked/removed my EGR valve, just for reliability reasons, and im now left with a EML light. It doesnt affect driving or anything, if just rather not have the orange light up on my dash permanently.

Is there any way i can get around this without having to have the ecu read and the EGR turned off? a resistor of sorts for example?

i did read before about getting an 8.2ohm/20w one (believe if was for the 8v JTD tho), but the local maplins have no idea what that is! and i cant seem to find one.

thanks

Luke

No, the only way is to turn it off in the ECU.

Ive fitted that resistor, it is to allow the removal of th egr solenoid completely off the car but only when the egr has been mapped out in the ecu as tribesman said.
Ive heard that when mapped out properly the egr can be removed off the loom and no fault code appears.if not yoy get a p401 i think, probably thinks solenoid is open circuit.
Heres a 5w resistor soldered to egr plug (5w8r2j)(ignore the small resistor that got too hot)
Still ok year or so on

Easy job to map out if you have a flash tool and some editing software

One way to find out.
If not will throw up a fault, if it does, refit and should clear after a few starts.

I've found that if you remove the key fob , before at least 10 sec's have past , after turning the engine off then a warning light will appear even with Fixitsan's dongle . Mostly I remember but with short local trips it's easy to forget.

Remember that you got 3 trips before the code shows up on dash...So practically, youll (I) never see it though ;-)
