159 Swirl Flaps

Hey Lads and Lassys,

Was wondering if you guys could give some advice on swirl flaps for a 159 2.4 engine.

Currently need to clean manifold and figured I'd maybe do something to the swirl flaps while I'm at it.

Can anyone offer any hints/tips on this?

Also what effect will it have on the engine?

hes looking more for info into removing them and any downsides in drivability.

having a quick search there those that have removed and welded hole up and theres those that have fitted an earlier year manifold that didn't have swirl flaps originally, even fixed in fully open position and sealed.
suppose it comes to cost, and time?
check with likes of autolusso if an earlier version didn't have them in , you may pick up a second hand manifold.

Few months ago I fixed swirl flaps in fully open position by zeroing values in corresponding map. I measured negligible bigger airflow and impression in driving was that swirls don't make obvious influence on performances in low/middle rpm area. After that I forgot this subject and my opinion is that swirl flaps are not too good attempt for introducing of some new kind of EGR.

Just wanted to resurrect this thread.

I swapped my IM for a de-swirl flapped IM a couple of months ago and I can honestly say i's made a massive improvement!

With the EGR blanked the low end rpm doesn't seem to be affected and the added grunt is definitely great, going of my a-r-s-e-dyno anyway. Oh and that sound! i'll take if for a stroll shortly and post a link! currently have a soft tyre that needs replacing
