DIY remap for 1.9 JTD (156)

Hi guys,

As title really. Am interested in saving some money on a remap, i know it's not going to be an amazing tailored map and so i'm just going to need a generic ROM with a "safe" map on it - but I'm interested nevertheless if the price is right. What is the cheapest way? I have a switchable KKL lead like this one:

Is that any good? what software do i need and where can i get such a ROM?

As i understand it the principal would be to download my own ROM as a backup and then flash the new ROM. I'm not looking to do anything overly complicated like adjusting the ROM myself as I wouldn't know where to begin OR how to establish whether what I'm doing is damaging my car; hence the "safe" map.

Many thanks,

I think you need to have a look on here maybe
ECUCONNECTIONS Engine Tuning Social Network • Index page
Read the rules
Introduce yourself
Read as much as possible on similar ecu to yours etc
Help is there and may be offered by others , it may not.
Just remember everything is a risk
Going to a pro is the least risky
Diy map id say most risky
Plenty of stories of bricking ecu when loading maps
Just so your aware worst case( other than blowing engine)
