ECU 2.10.4 software versions

I have a -97 GTV 2.0TS ph1 with the 2.10.4 ECU, h/w 0261204484
The original chip has s/w version 1037357769. I've been offered a tuning chip for the same ECU but with s/w 1037358801.

Is it just a software update, and is backwards compatible, or is the later version made for some
components that I do not have in my car?

The essensial question is, will it work in my car?

I take it then, that different hardware numbers of the M2.10.4 are NOT interchangeable?
All the following numbers have the same ISO code (55 32 86 04 15 26) but is the hardware different? Can I use one of the other units if I have the correct eprom for my GTV (484)?

0261204480
0261204479
0261204478
0261204421
0261204168
0261204422
0261204484

Garage
Different HW number ECU's will have probably some differencies on hardware layout. Although they may look the same externally, thay may have sensors routed to different channels e.g.

The car is garaged for the winter, and due to other projects I haven't been able to try the chip yet. I will try to remember to post in this thread when I do.
