147 Hid kit facelift

Well after what seemed an age i finally got round to fitting the hid kit i brought. After some research i decided on a 35W 4300K as i didn't want to much blue light.I brought a pro canbus kit, apparently these are the latest in terms of anti bulb failure stuff, it has mid slim ballasts and some nice rubber gromets to seal all the connecters back inside the headlight this is the kit---> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3005768691...84.m1497.l2649

Fitting was a little on the tight side ,passenger side was ok as it had some room, also managed to bolt the ballast to a hole already on the inner wing. However the drivers side was the opposite , i needed to remove the coolant tank ( three 8mm bolts) to be able to get my arm-hand in there and had to stick the ballasts on the upside on the inner wing with sticky pads.

I had to cut the rubber cap that sits on the lights and stops any of the elements getting in there. A hole about the size of a ten pence coin did the trick to seat the rubber grommet that comes attached to the bulb loom.

Also the annoying tiny metal clip that everybody has trouble un hooking needs to be removed and reattached after the bulb has been put in as the bulb comes preattached with wiring, and as a normal bulb does not this makes for some delicate hands and a torch but wasn't to bad.

This shows the complete setup, minus the ballasts, the rubber cap hides the two spade connecters that fit back into the one you took off the previous bulb so there protected.

And this is the finished job !

They look very nice i might add, nice white light and very bright no bulb or any failure crap either everything works as alfa intended

Good effort!

Technically i think they would fail an MOT, but i doubt they would ever get picked up.

The 4300K ones in the original link will be fine for a UK MOT as long as the beam shape is fine.

The 8000K ones mentioned by Kieran could be getting close to blue, which in itself is an MOT failure.

You do not need self-levelling to pass a UK MOT.
BUT, if you have self-levelling and HIDs, then the self-levelling needs to work (or at least not be visibly broken).

Garage
Mine just passed an Mot yesterday with 4300k projectors, never got a mention.

The fact I have an engine cover got an advisory, strange!

If you take the headlights out to do this then the ballasts fit nicely in the original ballast box on the bottom of the headlight, just visible in the picture.
