Some of the best money I spent (which was a lot) when I had my V6 was getting a BMC CDA carbon fibre induction barrel installed with a cold air intake being piped up from the drilled out blanking plate at the bottom near side of the bumper.
I know some people will warn against taking the air feed from that location due to the possibility of water going up the snorkel but it never presented as a problem for me... I didn't attempt to forge any rivers or drive in flooded areas and the suspension was lowered quite substantially too.
If you're going to go the full induction route it does necessitate pretty much destroying the original air box so I'm told so you might want to think carefully before getting the toolbox out but the glorious induction noise and (slight) performance gains are well worth it IMHO.
