ongoing tyre review. Achilles atr sport...

ok so I needed new tyres after my falken fk452's had seen better days up front and my Pirelli rears were worn right down.
after much searching and deliberating I came across the Achilles atr sport tyres. these were made for north American market and seen to be a popular choice, a fair few lads use them for track and surprisingly they seem happy with their performance. I say surprisingly as the tyres in 225 40 18 size come in at under 50 quid a corner on Camskill!
now blinkered brand snobs need not read on.
the rubber compound of these tyres is clearly much softer than my previous tyres. even the tyre fitter commented that they were the easiest tyres he's ever fitted. they have proven to give great grip on the dry
and the softer compound has completely eliminated road noise! the ride is also much more comfortable, especially with the firm suspension of my 3.2 GT.
I've still to try these in the wet, and i'm hoping the softness won't affect the wear rate too much. only time will tell.

the name does leave them wide open for jokes and ridicule. seriously though, the ride has been transformed, only got good things to say about them

I've just fitted 2 of these to my 159 and so far am very happy with them, and at 50 each delivered compared to over 150 for premium brands seem quite a bargin.

Achilles has been selling just above the Yokohama Adrives here in SA for a while now, many, many people who "tried" the tyre were just as surprised as you are! I'm also up for new tyres up front, and ill give the Achiles a go at 225/40/18 as the GQV's standard Pirreli P Zero is a road noise maker of note, I hate these tyres, the Achiles sells for around 80pounds round here.

I've just fitted ACCELLERA'S 19 X 235's on my 159 2.4 JTDM ti and they stick to the road very well wet and dry --- 80 delivered each plus local fitting at 15 a tyre balanced vat etc. The major brands were around the 250 plus mark each ----- that's just not going to happen on my car anyway !!!

I may give these a go on my refurbed pro race 18 inch as they work out just over 200 a set and my powerdercoaters will fit for free as its included in there price.

No thanks, too many stories about these tyres failing when driven at high speeds. Some of the on-line pictures are scary.

On the other hand there are quite a few good reviews. I've had a tyre fall apart @ 80 and I don't want to repeat the experience, so I'll stick to premium brands although for the price they do look attractive.

I fitted a pair of these to the rear of my ex-156 Ti just before I sold it. They were the absolute cheapest tyre I could find at the time.

I read the online horror stories as well but only found the couple that you linked to.it was certainly food for thought but there's far more good reviews on these tutees along with comments from people who've used then for track. so ask in ask I thought they'd be worth a punt. after all the only tyre to ever blow out on me was a Dunlop...
