gearbox

Hi !

i wonder , if anyone tried to tune up their gearbox ,...

shorten the gear ratios or is there a sport gearbox available ? (my car 156 1.8 )
i know if the gear ratios is shortent there is a ''damage'' on the top speed
but the acceleration is got to be a lot better after that , better than installing
any super light flywheel .
i just want to achieve really good acceleration and i think the best way to go is
to turn up the gearbox .

any information would be wonderful !

Custom gears cost a load. 105HP 1.6TS (or maybe even older 1.4TS) may have a way shorter gear ratios.
If you want better acceleration - lighten. Everything.

that doesn't help a lot ,.. except i put 13' wheels (ugly,and no grip)
the car isn't for 1/4 mile , i really want good acceleration
(i'm from slovenia and the roads here doesn't ''allow'' you high top speed
it's more fun to have good acceleration , and chasing the turns)

Instead of 205/55/16 tyres use 205/50/16. Instant 3.2% reduction in gearing. So at 60mph in 5th gear for example instead of doing 3,000rpm, you will be doing around 3,100rpm - you will have more power at the wheels at the same speed. Or you could use 195/45/16 tyres - thats nearly 8% reduction in overall gearing - 3,250rpm in 5th gear at 60mph.

You could try finding a 1.6 TS gearbox from a 156, that would be the easiest gearbox swap for more revs.
