I bought one a while back and it fitted perfectly and built well enough. The only issue I suppose was that the gasket included was more like a plate, quite thick, so the old one was cleaned up and reused.

Well worth it though, the turbo gets an easier life and my 8v was noticably better to drive. It also produced 126bhp when put on the dyno, was supposed to be 114bhp so it definitely helps.

All good to know, have ordered a new gasket from alfa anyhow, (although they're system says mine is a friction fit so doesn't need one) but it was only 3 pounds

Now just need to get it and fit it

The gasket I include is an aluminium plate and it seals very well I know from my own experience.
The thickness of this gasket is accounted for in my welding template although it's only +/- 1mm thicker than the original steel one.

Having had it fitted to mine for 2 years i can confirm it gives much more mid range torque and faster spool.

Let me know what you think of the down pipe please, also do JS do one for 2007 GT? Do you know how much? Does this remove a cat or a sensor?

Fitted it last night

Put the car on the ramps and removed the engine cover and both exhaust heat shields and under tray (hardest part of the job! Couldn’t get one of the back bolts out so I just rotated it out to the way!)

Here a pic of the old one in place

IMAG0170.jpg

The old one came away very easily (It would do!! had planned for the worst and borrowed a Grinder etc)

IMAG0171.jpg

The new one went straight in (The fit was perfect, cheers JS JTD) and bolted everything up (I used a new turbo to precat gasket even though mine didn’t have one when I took it off as it seemed to seal better with this fitted)

IMAG0174.jpg

Had a 30 mile trip home/test run (As used Parents drive! Bloody Terraced house ) and am really pleased with the result.

Exactly as Joss said the turbo lag is reduced so low rev pickup is better and the mid-range torque is really improved. The best bit is how much more eager the engine feels. It really seems to complement the remap very well

Very pleased!

Just cause it smokes doesn't mean its broke
*Unless the smoking is due to a breakage, then it does

Looks good, will have to put on my to do list. Does losing the cat effect the MOT at all?

It doesn’t have an emissions test as such, it has an Opacity test measuring the transmission of light through the exhaust gases, so it should make any real difference.

So far mine seems less smokey & my Dad’s Golf Tdi hasn’t had a Cat on for about three years and always passes
