When I got my 200bhp 2.4 Spider I was quite staggered at how flawed the power delivery was out of the box. Lag below 2,000 revs was simply unacceptable. First car I have ever driven that suffers from lag in 1st gear!
I took the car to be remapped by Gus at Alfatune not long after I got it. This made it much more grunty and significantly reduced the lag.
However, the car never quite felt right and it felt like it had a little too much torque.
I mentioned this to Gus and he invited me to head over to see him so he could adjust the map. We spent an hour or so together as he loaded different maps and I took the car for a test drive with each one, selecting the one I preferred.
In the end I settled for a map that apparently increased peak power whilst reducing torque.
Gus did the adjustments free of charge I would hasten to add - can't fault that for aftercare.
I have since done around 2,000 miles and the car feels much happier with the map, if not quite as grunty as before.
The most dramatic thing I have noticed has been a further increase in fuel economy. I commute every day into Manchester whilst doing quite a lot of motorway miles on business. I haven't done a brim to brim test, but in terms of running costs, it seems to be almost on par with my old 1.9 GT which had the box and boost mod.
I know the 2.4s come in for a lot of flack about economy, but as she stands the Spider is ridiculously frugal since I have had this latest map loaded.
It still feels more like a utility vehicle than a performance car, but at least it looks good whilst doing it and has a bit of go.
Thanks Gus, good work my friend.
